UNAM has 300 laboratories and areas certified with international ISO standards

The Coordination of Management for the Quality of Research (CGCI), of the Coordination of
Scientific Research, obtained ISO 17021-1: 2015 accreditation for bodies that perform auditing
and certification of quality management systems.

When delivering the certificate, Álvarez Icaza Longoria stressed that this entity has the
responsibility of coordinating the institutional program of certification and accreditation of
laboratories within the University of the nation.

“This means that the CGCI can grant ISO 9001 certifications to third parties like any other
national or international organization. As far as we know, this is the first time that an
institution of higher education has achieved this, ”he said.
