Subnetting Exercises - Subnet ID Calculation

Subnet ID Calculation VII

Answer Sheet

Table 1 IP Address and Mask Reference

R1 Interface IP Address Subnet Mask Subnet ID

Serial0/0/0 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.252 192.168.1.4
GigabitEthernet0/ 172.25.100.113 255.255.255.128 172.25.100.0
0

 Step 1. Calculate the subnet ID in which the IP addresses listed in the table at the
beginning of this lab reside. List your answers here and in the table above:

 Step 10. To determine the subnet IDs as calculated by Router R1, issue the
show ip route
command. Look at the connected routes for interfaces Gi0/0 and S0/0/0. Provide a
screenshot of the output from R1 below.

Additional Questions

1. How many usable IP addresses are there in the subnet configured on the Serial0/0/0 interface?
2 hosts with 64 max subnet
a. Based on the Topology for the lab, is this an efficiently designed subnet mask?
No this subnet setup is very limited to only 2 host per subnet with 64 max subnets
2. You need to provide a subnet for the LAN segment connected to R2 (where PC2 is located).
Assume the subnet used for GigabitEthernet0/0 had a parent network of 172.25.100.0/24.
What is the next available subnet (and mask) that would appropriately hold up to 126 hosts and
still fall within the same parent network (hint: it can’t be the same as the subnet used for gi0/0)
255.255.254.0 with 23 mask bits
