Huma Reflection

Huma 1010 was a really great course because it fit so well with some of the other classes
I am taking and have took while attending Salt Lake Community College. This course took
topics such as art, history, and movements and looked at the human reasoning behind them. It
was interesting to look at the humanistic side of things, and it has started to leak into my
everyday life. This course also allowed me to do a little good in my community, which in times
like we live in now is always something that can be appreciated. Throughout the course I felt as
though I was learning about the importance of culture, religion, language, and art and the roles
that they have played though out history. My civic engagement project I think touched on culture
because the women and their families that the shoes collected where going to are going to
slightly change the culture of these women and their femineity. In the culture of some of these
refugees’ women are seen as less than and treated as less than. Some of them do not have things
that they need, and I wanted to do something that would help. Not only did I learn about another
culture, but I also learned about another religion as well. I learned a little bit more about the LDS
church and what they do to help refugees in our area.
