Colour the Flowers
Apparatus: 1. 4 stalks of white carnation flowers

2. 4 Clear glasses

3. Knife or Scissors

4. Food Colouring (4 different colours)

5. Water

Procedure :

1. Fill half glass water in all the glasses.

2. Add 10 drops of food colouring into the water.

3. Stir the water with spoon until the food colouring dissolved completely in all the glasses.

4. Cut each stem of your carnation flower of an angle and place it in each glass containing
coloured water.

5. Observe the colour changes in the flowers in all the glasses for 3 days.

Why:
Capillary action inside the stem, there are tube like transport tissue, called xylem, that bring water
and nutrient to different part of the plants.
The colour change in the petals is due to the coloured water has been transported to the petals
through xylem.
