1. Singleton uses the asymmetrical visual balance. The variation of the shades used where he
chooses the prevailing color relationship between the dark green waters and the light orange sky
increase the visual effect of the entire composition. The use of implied and actual lines to draw the
viewer’s attention towards the bottom of the picture looks so fascinating at all.
2. The balance effect of composition enables us to recognize the message or information of his piece
where it represents the chaos and threat that the shark is approaching Watson. It also shows the
act of the fishermen working together in a combined effort to save the life of Watson being in
danger of losing his life to a blood-thirsty shark.
3. The variety of colors used is blended altogether presenting a sense of unity in his overall work.
Thus making viewers easily comprehend the essence of the artwork.
- Unity (also called harmony) is an important principle of design that gives the artwork a sense of
cohesion or coherence. It is the wholeness or completeness of a picture. Unity and harmony in art
are used by artists to tie a composition together and help the composition make sense as a whole
piece of art.
