I-OBJECTIVES
II-SUBJECT MATTER
A. Unit-1 Lithosphere
Lesson: the three main layers of earth
B. Materials: laptop and pictures
C. Reference: The Earth’s Crust lithosphere
D. Time Allotment: 1 Session
E. Science Concept: the three layers of earth the crust, mantle and core
F. Value Focus: safety and knowledge
III-LESSON PROPER
A. Preparatory Activities
Opening Prayer
Checking Attendance
Having a quick review about the past lesson
B. Motivation
(the teacher will ask some questions about the Earth)
Children, what can you say to our Earth? - The weather is nice
What do you observe to our surrounding? - Hot & Rainy
Did you ever see what’s inside beneath the - No, Sir
earth?
ACTIVITY
Now, I have a short story and I want you to listen
carefully and we will answer questions later”
(the teacher will show a picture)
Do you know why there’s an earthquake? - No, Sir
Alright
Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground
suddenly breaks along fault. And it is a sudden and
violent shaking of the ground, sometimes causing
destruction, as a result of movements within the earth’s
crust or volcanic eruption.
Comprehensive questions
What is earthquake? - Caused by the breaks of rock
within the earth’s crust
What will happen when there is an earthquake? - Destruction
PRESENTATION
“ Okay, children our topic for this day is all about the three layers
of the earth”
(the teacher shows the picture of the three layers)
Discussion
CRUST
“The outermost layer of the earth with a depth of about 32
to 40 km. The thinnest and the uppermost layer known as the
SIAL.”
Core
“It is about 4,960 km deep. The core is divided into two parts.
The outer core and Inner core. Outer core is about 2,270 km
thick, while Inner core is composed mainly of solid iron and
nickel.”
GENERALIZATION
IV- EVALUATION
1. Lithosphere is the solid part of the earth that consists of three main layers namely the crust,
mantle, and core.
2. It has depth of about 32 to 40 km which made of mostly silicon and magnesium called mantle.
3. Mantle is composed of very hot, solid rocks that flow.
4. There were two major parts of crust, the continental crust and oceanic crust.
5. The temperature of the Inner core is about 5,000 C to 6,000 C which is very extremely hot.
6. The region between the rocks and the mantle is called MOHO.
7. Scientist confirms the differences in density between rocks and those of the mantle by studying
its nature.
8. The earthquake is caused by the rocks beneath the surface of the core.
9. Mohorovicic Discontinuity is the term used to describe the Inner core.
10. The uppermost layer of the crust is known as the SIAL which compose of silicon and aluminum.
