You are on page 1of 4

Today you will be working on your formal.

You will be looking at online images in pairs (2) in an attempt to properly

identify phases in a cell. You will be assigned an image. In that image you
will isolate a small section (which you will include into your data section)
where you will label the phases, they are in. If you do this on a word
document, you will upload your final report as a PDF to avoid any formatting
issues. Failure to do so will end with you being graded on what was
submitted.

For the FIRST/ONLY time ever, you will be submitting ONE formal report per
pair.

You will write your normal write up problem statement to conclusion in pairs.
The following should be included in your report.

Data:

Click on the link to “MITOSIS” Read the text on this page and view the
animation, you can slow down the video by clicking step by step through the
phases.

1. Which stage does the following occur:

Chromatin
condenses
____prophase______________
into
chromosomes
Chromosome
s align in _______metaphase_________________
center of cell.
Longest part
of the cell _______interphase________________
cycle.
Nuclear
envelope ______prophase____________
breaks down.
Cell is cleaved _____________cytokenises____________
into two new
daughter
cells.
Chromatids
are pulled ____anaphase______________
apart

2. The colored chromosomes represent chromatids. There are two of each

color because one is an exact duplicate of the other. -How many
chromosomes are visible at the beginning of mitosis? ____46_____

-- How many are in each daughter cell at the end of mitosis?

____30______________

--The little green T shaped things on the cell are:

_______centrioles_____________________

-- What happens to the centrioles during mitosis? _It replicates and migrate to

opposite ends of the cell

3. Identify the stages of these cells:

     metaphase

       telophase

prophase
Include labeled images of your cell section (should be a total of 36 cells).

Data analysis:

The cell phases

Interphase Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Total
Number of Cells  20  10  3  2  1  36
Percent of Cells (calculate:  55.5  27.7  8.33  5.55  2.77
number of cells divided by total cells x 100)
