MENTAL HEALTH AND COVID-19

COVID-19 is leading to intense mental health issues marking as a health concern all around the
world. The current outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection among humans and its
spreading around the globe is heavily impacting on the global health and mental health.

(Higgins et.Al, 2020)

According to Mukhtar (2020), The ongoing pandemic COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) has
become a threat to psychological health of the people (Xiang, 2020). During previous outbreaks
the psychological impact on non-infected community revealed significant psychiatric illnesses,
and negative emotions toward the outbreak of infectious diseases and consistent worry about
contracting the disease. For instance, during travel restrictions and postponement and
cancellation of religious, sports, cultural and entertainment events, people in quarantine may
experience anger, loneliness, boredom and anxiety, and symptoms of cough, fever, myalgia and
fatigue may cause emotional distress and feelings of fear of contracting COVID-19

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' mental health is a concern for higher
education institutions across the world. In response to the pandemic, implementation of
“Community Quarantine” meaning people were required to stay at home, except for essential
activities (i.e. to buy some basic necessities such as food and medicines). Consequently, all of
the schools across the nation closed their campuses and moved to remote methods of teaching,
leading many students to leave their term-time residence.
