Lookup Lists
Topics: Administration, Localization, Writing modules Wiki Link: [discussion:356579]

GadgetGeek Does anyone have an idea as to how I could create localised lookup lists (perhaps creatable via the admin UI). They must be
May 21, 2012 at 6:04 localisable, and perhaps could be linked too e.g. county/state/province -> country
PM

Any thoughts?

sebastienros Have you tried the Taxonomy module ?

GadgetGeek The idea is that I could create a list via the admin pages and be able to use it as a content part (displayed in a drop down
May 21, 2012 at 6:32 for example) as art of a form e.g. registration (like the Country -> Region scenario)

Quote: "The Taxonomies module adds a way to manage taxonomies, and assign them to specific content types, thus
allowing content classification and filtering"

So this doesn't seem like an option.

Having related lists and adding/editing list contents (and localising them) via the admin UI would be great. I'm kind of stuck
on ideas to get it started...

sebastienros Well, Taxonomy is exactly done for your scenario. If you don't try it now, you are losing your time. And I am sure I can get 10
Coordinator more Orchard lovers who would also urge you to do so ;)

GadgetGeek If you could explain how I could use it in this scenario I'd give it a go!

sfmskywalker Yep, Taxonomy is the module to use. I'm curious about why you think that "allowing content classification and filtering" is not
Developer an option while at the same time your requirement is to have a localised lookup list? I think that's exactly what you would
May 21, 2012 at 7:23 need in order to be able to lookup items: they need some sort of key, e.g. a taxonomy. If you need to lookup content items
PM by, say, County, you could create a Taxonomy called County, define all of the available counties as Terms of that taxonomy
Edited May 21, 2012 and you have your localisable lookup list. Keep in mind that each Term is a content item, which can be localised.
at 7:24 PM Be sure to check out the docs on the module to get an idea of the possibilities: http://orchardtaxonomies.codeplex.com/

GadgetGeek Thanks for the help. I can see where you are going now, I'll have a play and see how far I get...
