Film Score Assessment

The music from films often reveal the thoughts and feelings of a character, assist in
developing the plot or create an opportunity to reflect on a situation which has arisen
within the plot.

In this task, you will select a piece of music from one of the three excerpts from films
studied in class to demonstrate your understanding of the following:

❖ The composer of the film score

❖ The era (when it was composed and the features of that era of film score eg.
1980s, the Golden Age. Refer to powerpoint)
❖ The structure of the piece
❖ Choose and analyse four musical elements of the piece (eg. melody,
instruments, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, mood, texture).
❖ The relevance of the piece to: 1) its context within the film 2) theme/s of the
film.

Presentation:
❖ Approximately 2 A4 pages. The questions can be answered in either
paragraph form or dot points, but all elements of the questions must be
addressed.
❖ Cite your references and try not to restrict yourself to Wikipedia (please!).
