1 Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to equip the students with a comprehensive knowledge
of the national laws of India on commercial and mercantile transactions and their
working under the global regulatory instruments.

2 Prerequisites:

 Students are expected to have primary/elementary knowledge about different aspects of


competition law, consumer protection law, and SEBI and Environment legislation.

3 Student Learning Outcomes:


The Student will be able to -
 Understand the State regulation of business under Competition law, Consumer
Protection and Environmental law.
 Have Critical analysis of legislations as to their applicability in the commercial
world.
 Apply the principles of Competition Law, Consumer Law and Environmental law to
practical situations.
 Evaluate the concepts of Competition, Consumer law and environment and their
performance so far.

4 Module I Competition Commission 25% weightage

 Competition Act 2002 (all provisions):


 MRTP Commission: its history, performance, drawbacks & failures;
 Competition Commission: its composition, qualifications of chair & members,
powers, procedures, penalties.
 Performance so far; leading cases decided by MRTP & Competition Commissions
5 Module II Securities and SEBI 25% weightage

 Securities Contracts (Regulation) Act 1956: history, provisions and working


 SEBI: functions, procedures & performance; working of SEBI
 Leading cases.
6 Module III Consumer Protection 25% weightage

 Consumer Protection Act 1986 (all provisions): history, objects, provisions,


 Authorities, courts, procedures and
 Other statutory provisions;
 Leading cases on consumer protection

7 Module IV Environment Protection 25% weightage

Environmental laws of India, their regulatory & penal provisions to be complied with by
business concerns;
National Green Tribunal: its composition, functions, jurisdiction & powers;
Leading cases decided by the courts and NGT
8 Pedagogy for Course Delivery:
The course will be taught using theory and case laws based method.
