1 INTRODUCTION

This design report has been prepared to provide a clear and detailed
description of all the major electrical engineering systems in order that the final
detailed design intent is clearly understood and accepted by all parties.
The electrical engineering system will be designed to the requirements of the,
British and International Standards.

2 ELECTRICAL SERVICES

2.1 Objectives

The objectives of the design are to prepare electrical services designs and
drawings in respect of: -
Electrical services comprising: -
(a) Incoming Electricity Supply;
(b) Lighting and power installations;
(c) Security Lighting;

2.2 Applicable codes and standards

(a) Institution of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEE) Wiring Regulations (BS
7671:2008);
(b) ISO 9001:1994;
(c) BS Standards and Codes
(d) CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) 2006;

2.3 Design methodology

2.3.1 Incoming Power Supply

The main power supply will come from the main power grid.
.
2.3.2 Lighting levels and power installations
(a) Lighting fittings layouts have been determined by calculations based on
recommended illumination levels for different tasks. The illumination levels
will be as follows: - Offices, reception – 300 Lux, circulation areas – 150
Lux, Toilets – 200 Lux, security lighting of 10-20 Lux.
(b) Location of power and telephone outlets has been based on architectural
furniture and equipment arrangements. Additionally, spare conduits have
been provided for future additional points that may be required.
(c) Emergency lighting has been designed for in accordance with BS 5266-
1:2011.
(d) The lighting layouts have been designed using LED light fittings.
(e) Emergency lighting has been designed for in accordance with BS 5266-
1:2011.

2.3.3 Power distribution

(a) A new switch room has been designed which shall house the new Low
Voltage switchboard and solar equipment, AC and DC.
(b) An armoured cable distribution system has been provided from the switch
room to all buildings, which have been provided with adequately sized
distribution boards.

(c) Switchgears and cable sizes to have been determined using IEE Wiring
Regulations (BS 7671:11992

2.3.4 Security lighting

(a) External wall mounted weatherproof light fittings have been provided for
this building Earthing
The earthing design for all electrical services has been provided and includes
installation, testing and commissioning of the entire installation. The design has
included bonding up complete of all metal branches and other similar items, entire
system of metallic cable trays, cable ladders and trunking, metallic sheaths of
cables, cases and enclosures of switch-gear and electrical apparatus have been
connected to the earth point, as required by the IEE Wiring Regulations.

2.3.5 Lightning Protection System
A lightning protection system has been designed in accordance with British
Standard BS 6651: 1991. The lightning protection system includes installation,
testing and commissioning to ensure that the system is electrically and
mechanically sound.

2.3.6 Testing and commissioning

The design of the electrical services includes testing and commissioning of the
entire electrical installations to ensure that these are in proper working order to
the satisfaction of the Engineer and the Client.
Testing standards have been specified to be in line with the relevant international
standards and the requirements of the power utility providers.

2.3.7 As-Built Drawings and Hand-Over Documents

An allowance has been provided for the sub-contractor to provide as-installed
drawings, test results.

2.4 Design deliverables

(a) Detailed electrical layout drawings and schematic diagrams in CAD format.
(b) Specifications and Bills of Quantities
