Lesson #1: Intellectual Revolutions that Defined Society

EVALUATE:

1-3. Enumerate three contributions of early civilization and discuss how it relates to modern day
society.

The three contributions of early civilization are the sun was stationary in the center of the
universe and the earth revolved around it by Nicolaus Copernicus, the scientific theory of
evolution from Charles Darwin and the method of psychoanalysis came from Sigmund Freud.
The theory of Nicolaus is related to our modern day because it discusses about the real form or
order of what universe or solar system looks like. In the case of Darwin, until now the evolution
of human or species like us are still questionable even Charles Darwin gives some evidence and
comparisons that prove his theory. Lastly, Sigmund Freud talking and explaining about the
human behaviour and how we must treat ourselves that until today we are giving
acknowledgement because of influence us to treating ourselves right.

4. From the discussion, it was pointed out that some of the scientific discoveries were considered
heretic before and scientists suffered persecution from this. Do you think that the religious
institutions should intervene with scientific activities?

I think both scientist and religious can intervene with each other as long as they respect
each other’s’ perspective. Being together in some discoveries is not a bad idea. It can help both
of them discover new things together but if their perspectives are always against each other, it is
better if they just do separately and respect each other’s knowledge about something. We cannot
force someone to believe in our perspectives but we deserve each other’s’ respect as long as we
also respect others’ perspective.

5. If given a chance, which era would you prefer to live in- early civilization, age of intellectual
revolution, present? Explain your answer.

I love to go in age of intellectual because in this era, I want to know what proofs and how
scientists or famous people lead to their own perspectives about knowledge and world. If their
theories are true or not and how these theories proven in their perspective. Also, I want to meet
people who sacrifice their life for different theories.
