Each of the students will make their presentation in the Forum Unit 1: Phase 1:
contextualization of the environmental impact assessment. Along with that
presentation, you should mention what you think is the difference or relationship that
the environmental impact assessment has with the environmental impact study.

Entities whose objective is to protect and ensure the environmental impact caused by
human interventions on the earth. With the difference that, the environmental impact study
(EIA), acts for the damages caused by a work or project, whether they are negative or
positive. And the environmental impact assessment (EIA) refers to the legislation for the
execution of such work. It should be clarified that the (EsIA) is done before the (EIA).
Which is the document that the technicians make identifying the impacts, the possibility of
correcting them, the effects they will produce, etc. It should be as objective as possible,
without interpretations or evaluations, but collecting data. It is a multidisciplinary study so
you have to look at how it will affect the climate, soil, water; know the nature that will be
affected: plants, animals, ecosystems; cultural or historical values, etc.; analyze the
legislation that affects the project; see how it will affect human activities: agriculture,
views, employment, quality of life, etc.

From the article “Sustainable construction: the role of environmental assessment”,

prepare an analytical summary in which you mention your personal opinion on the
limitations and functions of environmental assessment methods in construction
according to the document. The article is available in the contents of the knowledge
environment course, Unit 1, complementary bibliographic references.

Analytical Summary.

According to Breeam, he shows us with illustrations the first method planning guide
according to the requirements for quality improvement in constructions, he emphasizes that
an environmental impact study must be carried out before each construction to later
improve and implement better methods, and so see their designs and make environmentally
friendly improvements. These methods can also be applied to existing buildings, and thus
make the relevant adjustments.

Emphasize on choosing an option that minimizes environmental effects at the time of

impact assessment, either in planning or executing a project, because later it will cost
money and cause inconvenience. The economic aspects are also of great importance in the
planning of a sustainable project, because a project can be environmentally sound, but it
could make it more expensive. According to him, he seeks that the project has as its main
objective, which is to have an economic return. It may not be accomplished by making the
project less attractive to developers although it may be environmentally friendly.
Environmental issues and financial considerations should go hand in hand as part of the
assessment framework.

This article shows us the importance of sustainable development and highlights the
importance of including the environment as a priority, teaches us methods for the
construction or planning of sustainable projects, which implies the efficient allocation of
resources, minimum energy consumption, low energy incorporated, intensity in
construction materials, reuse and recycling. And with this, give greater value to the well-
being of future generations.
