Exercise 1

Underline the topic and the controlling idea in each of this topic sentences

1. The colour we wear change our emotions.


2. People who wear orange like to communicate with others.
3. People who wear red clothes want to have fun.
4. Shoes give us lots of information about the person wearing them.
5. Patterns on clothes give us clues to the mood of the wearer.
6. People who wear yellow are often creative.
7. Turquoise is good for people who have decisions to make.
8. People who wear green often like the outdoors.

Exercise 1

Look at the underlined topic sentences. In each case, one of the sentences below it does not support the
topic sentence. Underline the sentence that does not support the topic.

1. Colours are often divided into two groups, warm and cold.
-The warm colours are red, pink, yellow and orange.
-These colours are associated with activity and energy.
-Violet is the colour of royalty and often worn by political and religious leaders.
-The cold colours – blue, purple, violet and brown – are calm and mysterious.

2. Socks give us clues to a person’s inner personality.


-Socks are available in more colours now than ever before.
-Red socks show that the wearer has lots of energy that he or she needs to release.
-Wearers of white socks are often hiding their true feelings.
-Green socks are worn when a person feels the need of rest and relaxation.

3. The Luscher Colour Test is made up of wight colours that have been carefully chosen for their
meanings.
-Dr. Max Luscher, the inventor of the test, was born in Basel , Switzerland, in 1923.
-Each of the eight colours has the same meaning and importance the world over.
-The colours in the test are gray, blue, green, red, yellow, violet, brown, and black.
-The colours indicate what kind of personality you have.
4. Colours are symbolic and have many different meanings to people around the world.
-In America, red, white and blue-the colours of the flag-symbolize patriotism.
-Green is a sign of birth and new life to the Irish.
-Blue looks good on people with blue eyes.
-Some colours, such as pink and blue, represent male and female.

Exercise 3

Write a topic sentence and a concluding sentence for each of these paragraphs

1. Topic sentence: everyone has their own favourite colour


If your favourite colour is white, you are probably very moral and sometimes have old-fashioned
ideas about romance. People who like red, on the other hand, want excitement, variety, and
change and are often more interested in passion than true love. Pink lovers are warm and
understanding people who believe in loyalty and make good mates. Those who like the colour
blue are emotional and romantic and need lots of attention from their partners.
Concluding sentence: therefore, someone’s favourite colour give us a lot of information about
their personality

2. Topic sentence: Different colour has their own role related to health by giving the positive
energy
Violet is the colour that affects the bones in the body and can be used to heal the pain of
arthritis. Gold helps awaken the body’s own healing energy. Blue clears the mind and aqua is
cooling and can ease a fever.
Concluding sentence: in conclusion, colours can help solve the problem in terms of health.

3. Topic sentence: this is the ways on how to make a colour wheel.


To make a colour wheel, draw a circle and divide it into 12 equal parts. Then, colour in each
section with a different colour, starting with red. Notice how you feel when you colour each
section. You may feel more attracted to some colours than to others. Some colours might make
you feel better than others. Think about which colours are good for your health.
Concluding sentence: in conclusion, colours can make us feel better and at the same time good
for our health.
Exercise 4

Write a paragraph of this topic:

“My favourite colour”

Paragraph outline: everyone’s does have their own favourite colour, same goes to me. My favourite
colour is blue because I like to watching the blue sky. When I look at blue, I feel peace and calm. The
more reasons why I like blue is because it makes me look younger when wearing that colour. Lastly,
blue colour is the colour of my personality. It showed about myself and for those people who saw me
can imagine that I am self-spoken and caring person.

Topic sentence: Everyone’s does have their own favourite colour, same goes to me.

Supporting detail 1: feel peace and calm

Supporting detail 2: makes me look younger while wearing that colour.

Supporting detail 3: show my personality

Concluding sentence: in conclusion, blue is my favourite colour.
