Reflection Paper

ASSESSMENT FOR LEANING

Students go to school to learn and gain more knowledge about a certain topic,
lesson and subject, but how will a teacher know if the students really
understood and improved their learnings about a certain lesson/subject?
During my time as a student from elementary and up until now, my teachers
would know my progress through assessment and evaluation. It is through
assessment and evaluation that the teachers can determine whether the
students progressed and improved their skills and it can also help the teacher
to determine their lacking, if there is any, and should improve their teaching
skills and techniques to further give a quality education to the students.

Assessment is a systematic process of data collecting and reviews of

programs and activities undertaken for the purpose of improving the progress
and development of a student. Teachers play a big role in assessing the
students for they should closely monitor their students from time to time to
help them achieve the curriculum's expected positive outcome. We can use
variety of techniques in assessing a student's progress and development. In
my experience, my teachers usually give a quiz every after discussion and
exams every after end of the chapters. Some also require role play, reporting
and, oral recitations to further develop our knowledge and skills which we
could use in our future jobs. Thus, paper and pencil tests, class reporting,
term papers, reflection papers, role play, oral recitations and many more are
examples of an assessment that a teacher can use to help their students’
progress.
