CASE #1 – PALPITATIONS

AJ is a 72 year old man who had been in good health until 3 months ago when he began
experiencing palpitations which have increased in frequency over that time. He describes the
palpitations as a pounding in his chest and he feels like his heart is racing. The palpitations
seem to occur more with exertion but he experiences them at rest and even at night while in
bed. They occur up to 10 times a day. Exertion may precipitate the sensation and rest can
alleviate it but not consistently.
