Introduction
What is TOEFL?
• TOEFL® test is an English proficiency test that measures the
ability of non-native English speakers to use and understand
English as it’s read, written, heard and spoken in the university
classroom. It is designed to help you do well by preparing you
to express yourself confidently in English in the university
environment.
Why should you take the TOEFL?
It is widely used for:
1.Placement in intensive English-language programs requiring
academic English proficiency at a college or graduate level.
2.Progress monitoring in English-language programs stressing
academic English proficiency.
3.Exiting English-language programs by demonstrating proficiency in
English listening and reading.
4.Skill building and preparation.
5.Admissions to short-term, non-degree programs and collaborative
international degree programs.
6.Scholarship programs, as contributing documentation for academic
English proficiency.

TOEFL ITP
General Information
• TOEFL ITP is a paper based test for evaluating English language
proficiency.
• All questions are in multiple choice format.
• It measures the skills in three areas: listening, structure and written
expressions, and reading.

How the scores are reported
• Each correct answer on each part/area is counted as raw score.
• There is no penalty for wrong answers.
• The raw scores are converted by statistical means to a number on a
scale.
• To obtain the total score, add the scaled scores for each section and
multiply by ten thirds (10/3)
