BEED 3
The country mouse and the city mouse
The city mouse visited his friend the country mouse in
the farm. “The farm is a terrible place to live in, my
friend,” he said. “It’s dirty and I don’t see anything
attractive.” The country mouse was dismayed.
When the two friends arrived at the country mouse’s
hole, the city mouse again commented on the filth of
the surroundings. “In the city, the floors are clean
and shiny,” he said.

The country mouse served his friend food from the

farm: gains of rice, corn, peas, wheat and pieces of
cheese. “These are not food compared to what we eat in
the city,” the city mouse said and bid his friend
goodbye at once. The two friends agreed that the
country mouse will visit the city mouse the next week.

The next week, the city mouse met his friend the
country mouse in a street corner. The country mouse got
frightened when they were nearly run over by a truck.
The city mouse brought his friend to a big house. They
climbed up a table where ham, a roasted pig and
different kinds of food were served.

But before they could eat, a servant suddenly appeared.

The servant whacked the two friends with a broom, and
then chased them away. The country mouse was so scared
he thought it was already the end of his life.

Back in the street, the city mouse offered to take his

friend to another house. But the country mouse refused.
“I’m not going to take any chances with my life just so
I’d be able to eat delicious food, my friend,” he said.
The city mouse is ashamed of himself because of what
happened. Since country mouse refused the offer of city
mouse. City mouse decided to go back to the country
mouse's farm and stay for a few days to make up for his
friend.

Let’s go! City mouse said. Where? I want to go home to

the farm and I don't want to be here anymore. Let's go
to your farm and I will go home with you and I will
stay there for a few days and help you in the farm so
that I can get you back. city mouse said.

Are you serious? Really? It’s that you my friends? Well

I guess it's okay for me because that's your decision
let’s go! Country mouse said. The city mouse helped
with the activities on their farm and also learned to
eat what the country mouse ate which at first he did
not want to eat and was insulted.

After 1-2 weeks of staying on the farm with the

country mouse, the city mouse realized something.

You know life is really different here and in the

city, here it's just quiet and peaceful while there
it's very noisy and dangerous. I'm sorry for all the
insults I said and I was wrong. It's okay as long as
you don't repeat it and don't underestimate what
someone has.

City mouse decided to stay with country mouse. he

thought that it was more peaceful and happy on the farm
than in the city where he was suffering.
REACT
ION I’m happy and inspired when I read
this story because it’s a straightforward
and I guess if the children read this story they would
realize about different situation in life. Even though it is
a short story, the message of it is very meaningful at some
point we we’re realize about our past experience or our
status in life.

REFLE
CTION
I realized that I’m so blessed and
thankful for everything I have and for
what I am right now. My life may be transparent like country
mouse that lived peacefully even though we don't have lavish
things that make us happy and having luxurious life. But
after reading the story I felt that living in the city with
fancy things is not the true definition of having a good
status in life. Yes, we can imagine that other people like
city mouse who eats delicious food and living in a huge
mansion, but we never know the dangers and hazards they go
through to live each day. Our life may be simple or fancy,
but what counts is that we are happy and safe with it. That
is why let’s choose happiness and safety rather than live
with abundance but danger is in all our live.

COMM
ENTS It is a meaningful story for children and
also for adults like us. I can say that we must

AND go back and read those kinds of stories so that

we can get a moral lesson and realization in
life. Because there is a time that when I read

SUGGE
the story, I felt already the heart of the
story and at the same time it enlighten me that
I should be thankful for everything. Also, for
the characters, we should not judge the person

STION even though they are simple, may be they are

simple but they are full of blessings. On the
other hand, I suggest that someday plenty of
people will create this kind of works for us to
spread out for everyone. I know that it’s kind of childish when we
read this type of books but the only matters is the message not the
physical appearance of what you read.
