Duka, Ma. Danica (The Country Mouse and The City Mouse)
Aesop's Fables
BEED 3
The country mouse and the city mouse
The city mouse visited his friend the country mouse in
the farm. “The farm is a terrible place to live in, my
friend,” he said. “It’s dirty and I don’t see anything
attractive.” The country mouse was dismayed.
When the two friends arrived at the country mouse’s
hole, the city mouse again commented on the filth of
the surroundings. “In the city, the floors are clean
and shiny,” he said.
The next week, the city mouse met his friend the
country mouse in a street corner. The country mouse got
frightened when they were nearly run over by a truck.
The city mouse brought his friend to a big house. They
climbed up a table where ham, a roasted pig and
different kinds of food were served.
REFLE
CTION
I realized that I’m so blessed and
thankful for everything I have and for
what I am right now. My life may be transparent like country
mouse that lived peacefully even though we don't have lavish
things that make us happy and having luxurious life. But
after reading the story I felt that living in the city with
fancy things is not the true definition of having a good
status in life. Yes, we can imagine that other people like
city mouse who eats delicious food and living in a huge
mansion, but we never know the dangers and hazards they go
through to live each day. Our life may be simple or fancy,
but what counts is that we are happy and safe with it. That
is why let’s choose happiness and safety rather than live
with abundance but danger is in all our live.
