The Dynamic Song

“I'm right over here, why can't you see me?” is a very powerful lyric in the song Dancing

On My Own by Robyn. It talks about a relationship between two people, where one person is in

love with the other, yet they chose someone else. This song takes place from the perspective of

the one not chosen by their loved ones. It's very much a one-sided relationship. It touches our

deepest emotions throughout this song. In Robyn’s original song, she has a more upbeat and fun

tone compared to Calum Scott’s take on her original. She released this song in May of 2010.

Calum Scott released his official cover of Robyn’s song in June of 2016. Calum’s version of the

hit single Dancing On My Own is a more emotional and slowed version of the song that touched

many hearts. Robyn's original song and Calum Scott's cover version of the song Dancing On My

Own are both dynamic versions of the song. Robyn's original version is more upbeat and fun,

Calum Scott's version is more sad and emotional compared to the original. Since each artist has a

different set audience, this exposes the song to many different people.

Robyn’s original song is a more fun dynamic twist on her heartfelt lyrics. Her music

video also has a more fun tone compared to her heavy lyrics. In her video, she is at a party with

flashing lights and people around her living their best lives. She is mainly standing still, taking

everything in while everyone else is living in the moment. In her video, it almost feels like she

was taking a step back from reality and taking everything in. Her lyrics are very deep and

personal to her. You can tell she is very passionate about this song and her music in general. She
has worked so hard to be where she is today and this song proves it. She tried to make the song

less serious with her fun dynamic and upbeat track.

Calum Scott's take on the song Dancing On My Own was a much more emotional

rollercoaster compared to Robyn’s original upbeat song. You might be wondering who

singer-songwriter Calum Scott is and how he became the artist he is today. Well, Calum grew up

in Yorkshire, England with his sister Jade Scott, who also has a passion for music. He gained his

fame from Britain’s Got Talent. Calum Scott did a cover of Robyn’s song on Britain’s Got Talent

in April 2015. He received lots of love and support from the audience during his performance

and even received a golden buzzer, moving him to the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent. This

skyrocketed his career. He then released an official cover of Dancing on My Own in June of

2016. With over 431 million views on YouTube, doubling Robyn’s views on her original, many

still listen to Scott’s version today. His music video is a much sadder tone compared to Robyn’s

fun and cheery video. In the video, you can see two lovers struggling to find their way to each

other. Everyone is standing in lines and is looking straight front in the video. It's a very clear

message that these people are representing society and how if you move out of line, or if you

don’t apply to society’s standards, you are looked at as “different”. It's a very powerful message

for a video to have and I believe that it should be talked about more.

Robyn’s music video and Calum Scott’s music video are very different yet the same.

They are using the same lyrics yet have such different meanings. While Robyn’s version is more

fun and bubbly, Calum’s version is more depressing and emotional. They both have very deep

meanings that can be interpreted through the lyrics of the song. The lyric “Does she love you

better than I can?” is making a person questioned if they were enough for their loved one. Both

Robyn’s music video and Calum’s music video can interpret this lyric in the same tone of their
videos. Even if the videos have different claims and meanings they still are very similar. They

both talk about a situation that can be overwhelming to a person, so they have to take a step back

from reality to see if it's worth the trouble.

To sum up, everything that has been stated so far, Robyn’s original song and Calum’s

cover version, are two very different songs with the same lyrics. While Robyn’s song is more

upbeat and fun, Scott’s cover is a more sad and heartfelt version of the original. Scott’s version is

a much more emotional song with the piano and his tone of voice while he is singing. Robyn has

a much more futuristic track with her very impactful lyrics. They are two different ways to

interpret the song yet are so similar. Their meanings and claims are very similar as well as what

they appeal to. Both songs are very passionate and emotional versions of the original tune.
