CPT Overview/Proposal

Overview:

My history CPT is split into three parts and tied up into a story. The first part is a story

told by a parent to a child about The Battle of Vimy Ridge in World War I. The second part is a

letter from a farmer to a loved one about his times during the “Dustbowl”. Finally, the last part is

a newspaper article about the importance of D-Day.

Proposal:

I chose to talk about the Battle of Vimy Ridge in World War I as it was one of the most

important battles for Canadian soldiers. This was the first battle in which Canadians began to be

recognized for their courage, as well as success from keeping Vimy Ridge to the Allies and away

from the Germans. All in all, The Battle of Vimy Ridge was the first battle in which Canadians

began to become their own country.

During the 1930s, many farmers struggled to grow and sell crops as there was a drought.

This was also known as the “Dustbowl”. I wanted to talk about the struggles that the farmers wet

through during the “Dustbowl” and how they managed to survive through such a dreadful time in

history.

My final topic was D-Day. I chose to talk about D-Day during World War II. D-day

refers to the invasion in Normandy on June 6, 1944. Upon research, I came to find that D-Day

was known as one of the most important battles in World War II, as it marked the beginning of

the end of World War II. In this part, I will be talking about the significance of D-Day and why

we should remember this moment in history.
