Adjectives
• Adjectives modify nouns.
Examples: Margot wore a beautiful hat to the pie-eating
contest.
The old clock hung upon the wall.

• Adjectives modify pronouns.


Examples: The water in the pail is a yellowish one.
Only a diligent few were given recommendation.
Types of Adjectives
Descriptive Adjectives
❑ They describe the quality of the noun.
They tell the size, shape, color, origin or
other qualities.
Examples of Descriptive Adjectives
Color: brown bag
Sizes: big room
Shapes: round table
Qualities: noisy market
Personality Traits: cheerful student
Time related: yearly
Age related: young
Types of Adjectives
Limiting Adjectives
❑ They limit the words being described.
They tell how many are being described.
Examples of Limiting Adjectives
Definite Article: The
Indefinite Article: A, An
Possessive Adjectives: my, your, his, her
Demonstrative Adjectives: this, these, that and
those
Indefinite Adjectives: another, any, both, each,
either, few, many, several, all, every, most, neither,
no, other and some.
Examples of Limiting Adjectives
Interrogative Adjectives: which, what and whose.
Cardinal Adjective: five, seven
Ordinal Adjective: first, fifth
Proper Adjectives: Japanese, Vietnamese
