DETERMINERS

WHAT ARE DETERMINERS?

1). Determiners are words that are used with nouns to clarify the noun.
2) Determiners are words that introduce a noun and provide some information about it.

Examples : the ball, his son, five cats, more cars

TYPES OF DETERMINER

1) INDEFINITE ARTICLE ( A and An)


It introduces a general version of a noun, and with countable singular noun
Examples : I saw an accident of a car.
That is an excellent pencil.
Alex is training to be an engineer.
I need a kilogram of salt.
Yesterday I bought a blouse and a skirt.

2) DEFINITE ARTICLE (THE)


It introduces a specific noun
Examples : Yesterday I bought a blouse and a skirt. The blouse was surprisingly
cheap, but the skirt was more expensive.
The movie is perfect.
Can you give me The book on the table?
The dog attacked Jhon and ran away.

3) QUANTIFIER
It indicates how,,, 1) How many,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 2) How much,,,,,,,,,,,,
How many ( a few, few, some, many, several,)
Examples :
1) I saw a few people in the program
2) Jack has many friends here
3) There are few people here
4) I have several good books.

How much ( much, a little, little,) ( little : very small amount that is hardly enough
Examples :
1) There is much pollution in town
2) He drinks a little milk every day
3) He drinks little milk because he doesn’t like it
4) I had little bread and water, but I’m still hungry
5) I have little money, so I can’t afford it.

4. DEMONSTRATIVE
Demonstrative adjectives are used to sign, represent or represent a place.
The members are :
1. This and These for people, animals, or things near us.
Examples : This is my laptop (singular noun)
This is my pen (singular)
These papers belong to me ( plural)
2. That and Those for people, animal, or things not near us.
Examples : That student is beautiful
Those students are studying English.

5. POSSESSIVE
Possessive adjectives introduce a noun that belong to someone
The members are: my, your, his, her, its, our, your, their.
Examples :
This is my laptop.
Your book is new.
His father is an engineer.
Her house is beautiful.
Its bone is old.
Our class is not too big.
Your English is very good.
Their parents are not well now.

6. ORDINAL AND CARDINAL NUMBERS


Ordinal Numbers ( first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eight, ninth)
Cardinal Numbers ( one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine)
