Space Opera, what is this?

Dan: It has travel logs, you get to see a lot of places.

Howard: Missing link between Sci Fi and fantasy. More of an adventure story, kind of like Star Wars.

Brandon: Why are we talking about this?

Howard: there is a classic writer who needs to classify this. There are also those who don’t need it.

Dan: So you can identify what your doing. YA allows you to cross genres. Adult is more restrictive.

Brandon: Space Opera MIT

Howard: Main character with a sense of wonder and adventure.

Brandon: Science Fiction, fun comes before science.

Howard: Military Science Fiction. The science focuses on guns and weapons and tactics.

Dan: All military stuff.

Brandon: Credibility as a military personnel is very important. Space marines kicking butt. SMKB is
military science fiction.

Dan: Make sure you have read your stuff. Know what you are doing. Otherwise they will find you and
hunt you down.

Brandon: Hardcore, what is it?

Dan: Hardcore is perfect Science Fiction, correct science.

Howard: a bit of an attitude, some number crunching. A little restrictive.

Brandon: I don’t really like it. Short story is okay though.

Howard: You need to know distances and speeds. Lots of stuff.

Brandon: Clark is very big.

Howard: David Brinn. All his science is right.

Dan: You need to know your science. David bornell with find you and hunt you down.

Brandon: Character setting and plot is important and conflict.

What is Cyber Punk?

Dan: It needs to be Cyber punk. Cyber punk has its supporters. Cyber punk is near future, dystopian, and
modification of human form.

Howard: Trend projection.

Dan: private nations are big.

Brandon: Bladerunner is the best interpretation of cyber punk. Matrix is happy go lucky of cyber punk.

You need to know all of these really well, except for space opera which is just having fun.

We don’t need dystopian, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Scott Westerfield.
