2.2 Starting the plant
The plant can be started in two ways:

Automatic start

Press to start automatic starting sequence:

Water pumps starts
Compressor capacity is reduced to minimum
Timer for minimum resting time runs out
Sending request to PMS system (if used)
Receiving ”start ready” from PMS
Compressor starts
Refrigerant pump starts

The plant is now running and capacity control is acting depending of selected principle

auto/manual

Manual start-up
Pumps can be started manually by pressing pump symbol on the screen. A window like
this is showing:

The pump symbol shifts to blue when a pump is running in manual.

Manual capacity control

The compressor capacity is adjusted by pressing symbols for capacity increase/decrease
solenoids on the screen.
Limiting and alarm functions are functioning as normal.

3.2 Heating

Compressor capacity settings

The compressor's capacity is controlled by two relay outputs, which enable compressor
power to be increased or reduced, varying the capacity of the compression chamber.
Compressor power is controlled by sending pulses to the capacity control solenoids.
These pulses command the compressor to load or unload. These pulses are at a constant
frequency, adjustable, and of variable duration between two minimum and maximum
limits.
C: Set point
B/D Decreasing pulse max/min
H/F: Increasing pulse max/min
E: Neutral zone
G-E : Increase zone
A: Decrease zone
Cycle time: Time between capacity controlling pulses

If the plant is delivering warmer water than “C” oC for a long period (settable in timer
settings) the compressor will stop, and not start before the minimum compressor
standstill timer and the outlet temperature is higher than C+E oC.

These pulses are at a constant
frequency, adjustable, and of variable duration between two minimum and maximum
limits.
Points C,E and G are set as a temperature offsets and calculated from setpoint.
The regulator has the following parameters:
A: Set point
B/D Decreasing pulse max/min
H/F: Increasing pulse max/min
E-C: Neutral zone
Cycle time: Time between capacity controlling pulses.

If the plant is delivering colder water than “A” oC for a long period (adjustable in timer
settings) the compressor will stop, and not start before the minimum compressor
standstill timer and the outlet temperature is higher than A+E oC.

3.3 Timer settings

Timer settings
Description of timers
Start delay compressor: When pressing process start in main page the
process starts first and runs for a settable time
before the compressor starts.
Resting time compressor: Minimum time before compressor restart.
Limit decreasing pulse: Pulse length of forced decrement pulse when a
capacity limiter is active
Refrigerant pump time before stop: Time before stopping the spray pump when
cavitation occurs.
Refrigerant pump stop time: Time for allowing gas bubbles to be vented out
of spray pump suction
Regulation stop time: If the plant is delivering colder water than
setpoint for a period set in this parameter, the
compressor will stop.
Pre-lubrication pump: Pre-lubrication of compressor before
compressor start.

3.4 Limitations

The compressor capacity can be limited if process values is passing threshold values
given in the limits page.

High pressure limit:

If the high pressure is over high pressure limit set point - NZ, then the capacity
increasing solenoid is blocked from operating.
If the high pressure is over high pressure limit set point, a forced decrementing pulse is
activated.

Motor current limit:

If the motor current is over motor current limit set point - NZ, then the capacity
increasing solenoid is blocked from operating.
If the motor current is over high pressure limit set point, a forced decrementing pulse is
activated.

Refrigerant spray pump pressure limit

If the refrigerant pump cavitation occurs, then the delivery pressure of the pump will
drop. If the pump pressure is below the limit for the preset period, the pump stops and
start again when the timer is finish. This allows refrigerant gas to ventilate from pump
suction. This will normally solve cavitation problems.

3.5 Limitation LP

Suction pressure limit:

If the suction pressure is below suction pressure limit set point + NZ the capacity
increasing solenoid is blocked from operating.
If the suction pressure is below suction pressure limit set point, a forced decrementing
pulse is activated

This regulator allows the cooler to work at a lower setpoint at high water temperature
and increases the setpoint linear against the falling outlet temperature.

3.6 Controller pumps M6 (M7+M8)

In this picture you can see a typical regulator for pumps / valves.

“min out limit” 30% =15Hz and “max out limit” 100%=50Hz.

3.7 Cooling medium valve

Settings for the ICAD expansion valve:

Set point: Wanted level in condenser, typically 20%
P-gain: Regulator gain for a deviation from the set point. Normally between
1 and 2. A high P-gain value gives a nervous behaviour of the icad
valve. A low P-gain gives a large difference between set point and
measured value.
I-gain: Integral gain. Normally set to 0
Offset: Offset value for output to valve to compensate for fixed deviation
between set point and condenser level. Normal value is 0 - 20%
Min out limit: Minimum opening of ICAD valve. Normal value is 0 %
Max out limit: Maximum opening of ICAD valve. Normal value is 100%

3.8 Condenser

Some plants are delivered with a frequency inverter for the condenser pump.
This control is used on plants without an oil pump, and thus requiring a certain
condensing pressure to get sufficient oil pressure.
The correct differential pressure (HP/LP) is calculated in the plc.
Parameters:

P-Gain: Regulator
Pressure req offset: Normally set to 0 but its possible to get an higher differential
pressure when increasing this one.
Minimum out limit: Lowest allowed speed of condenser pump.
Max out limit: Highest allowed speed of condenser pump.
