Wellness Medium and Your Wellness Plan

1. What medium have you chosen? Please describe and/or attach/upload visual.

The medium I have chosen is a picture of my dog, Chiquita, a small one year old Yorkie
Terrier.

2. What does this medium represent to you? Why? Please describe why this is meaningful.

This medium is meaningful to me because I am an only child and Chiquita has helped
keep me company as I spend most of my time at home due to the pandemic. She is the
daughter of a dog I previously had and has been with us since she was born. Her mom
had difficulty feeding her so I would feed her with special puppy formula and a small
bottle until she was able to learn to feed herself. I have grown to be very attached to her
as she is my best friend. This medium just reminds me of happiness and love which is
essential as I feel as though sometimes it can be difficult to always remember the good
things in our lives, especially in a career as stressful as nursing. My dog and pictures of
her remind the importance of taking care of yourself so you can take care of others. This
happens as when I feel stressed or upset, I do not always pay attention to Chiquita and do
not take her on walks or play with her. The effects of my stress and negative emotions do
not only affect myself, but also others around me such as my dog.

3. Post your personal wellness commitment statement and plan to care for YOU below. Be
specific.

My wellness commitment statement is that I will meditate at least 10 minutes a day and
when I am feeling negative emotions. Meditating can help in refocusing myself allow to
me to center my thoughts and direct myself to doing productive and beneficial things. I
can leave the negative thoughts behind and take time to go on a walk with my dog, which
will not only benefit her but also myself. After meditating, I will sit down and plan out
what activities I need to do for the rest of my day and create a plan of action. Overall, this
can provide self-care because I will be able to take part of different activities which will
help me to maintain my health, promote health, and cope with any difficulties I may be
experiencing.
