Monsters First Day of School

There once was a monster who had never been to school. One day his mother told him tomorrow
would be his first day at Monster Elementary. He was very nervous because he had no idea what
to expect the next day. The monster's mom told him the next day would be the greatest day ever
and she would be there to pick him up at the end of the day and hear all about his adventures in
school. So, he tried to sleep, but he was so nervous it didn’t come easy. When his mom came in
the next morning the monster was snoring away. The monster’s mom gently woke him up to get
ready for the day. His mom had made worms and toast for breakfast, is absolute favorite
breakfast to have. After breakfast he went and got dressed, brushed his teeth and horns, combed
his rainbow hair, and put on his favorite camouflage shirt. He hoped his shirt would help him
blend in and not stand out. Once ready, his mom drove him to his new school. He knew his
teachers name was Mrs. Finch, he hoped she would be nice, but he wasn’t so sure. When they
arrived at the school they got out of the car and his mom took more pictures than he could count.
They walked up to the classroom door and he hid behind his mom. He wasn’t ready to go in yet.
Mrs. Finch came over to say hello and meet her new student. It took a few minutes, but the
monster finally hugged his mother, said goodbye, and went into his classroom. In the classroom
there we so many other little monsters that he knew. He immediately found a friend, that made
him feel much better about how the day was going to go. Mrs. Finch asked her students to find a
desk and have a seat. After introducing herself she had each student tell a little about themselves.
After each student had a turn, Mrs. Finch played a song that had all the ABC’s. He knew all his
letters, so he sang along as loud as he could. They counted to 5 using little worms. When they
were done, Mrs. Finch let them eat their worms as a treat. At lunch little monster sat with his
class chatting happily with his new friends and the ones he knew. The playground had a twisty
slide, monkey bars, and swings. It was the biggest playground the monster had ever seen. After
lunch Mrs. Finch had the monsters, all lay their heads on their desks and take a calming break.
The monster was far too excited to sit still and be calm. But it didn’t take long until they were
moving onto more activities. The monsters' favorite part of the day was the art project the got to
do. Mrs. Finch had painted their hand red like an apple and made a handprint on a paper. There
was poem about their first day to go with it. The monster couldn’t wait to show his mom his art.
The day flew by. When it came time for the school day to end the little monster wasn’t ready to
leave. He wanted to stay with his new friends and Mrs. Finch. When his mom got there, he hid
behind Mrs. Finch. His mom promised him he could come back tomorrow if he came out from
behind his teacher and tell her all about his first day at school. The monster agreed and came out.
He excitedly showed his mom his art project. Bouncing up and down he told her all about his
day, his new friends he had made and how nice his new teacher Mrs. Finch was. When they got
home the monster pulled his homework folder out of his backpack to show his mom, he could
say all his letters and count to 5. When it was time to go to bed the monster wasn’t nervous for
the next day, he was way too excited for tomorrow. He tried to sleep but he was just way too
excited. He got up probably one hundred times to ask his mom if it was time to get ready for
school yet. Each time she kissed him on the head and told him to go back to bed. It felt like
forever before he was able to fall asleep. He fell asleep thinking about how he couldn’t wait to
go back to school the next day and have all the fun he did today.
