GOVERNMENT COLLEGE UNIVERSITY LAHORE

Reflection Paper
Introduction
This course carried us in its attachments to the mesmerizing and exciting World of story writing.
This journey was full of excitement, emotion, unfortunate as the pleasure of reading stories has
always captivated me, and the ability of the storyteller to compress all the mysteries of the
circumstance within a story has always left me in wonder. The few stories that I had the
opportunity of studying so far have resonated with me. They have rebuilt my passion for reading,
which I have to let go of, in one sense, because of my, laziness. They reminded me of the
significance of reading. One of them also satisfied as a serious reminder for me to reconnect with
the art of writing, as usual, I was writing poems, short stories. These short stories are written on
different themes showing authors creativity, reality, and imagination, which wake up our
imagination.

Story #01
The open window
By: Hector Hugh Munro

The story gives us a wonderful example of how appearance, semblance, and naivety can distract
out our attention from reality and even makes harm our health. The narrator made perfect use of
mockery in the story. The story is about a tense man, who is facing a nervous problem and comes
to the countryside to cure his nervous situations. Where he has to meet with Mrs. Sappleton to
talk about his illness, but unfortunately he met with a very self-possessed Young lady that self-
possessed Young girl entertains him with an artful story, hate in the end, and only makes his
nervous situation worse. This type of misconception cause internal as well as external conflict.
The internal conflict is a conflict within a person himself, between the fleeing he experienced,
but the external conflict represents the difference between generations. The author
varies two, worlds that of young people and adults. The World of adults is full of prejudices,
stringent Rules, and fears, while the world of youthfulness is at the same time, full of
amusement, imagination, inspiration, and creativity, merriment consequences of the story are
caused by the expectations of an imaginary girl who is controlling grown-ups. The self-possessed
young lady managed to make full all characters of the story. The author dramatizes here the
discussion between reality and imagination, indicating how difficult it can be to differentiate
between them. We must be more prudent and farsighted in everything thing and do not give
anyone a chance to make us foolish. This is the mental perspective, of a feared and glad person.
Imagination is favorable for helping others not distracting others.
Story #02
The doll's house
By: Katherine Mansfield
The doll’s house is primarily a story about how class prejudice, injustice, inequality, shame
social ostracism, innocence, and adults cruelty against children. The story revolves around two
families to differentiate between the classes, which are created by society. Through the story, he
depicts a community in which people are invisibly divided into a hierarchy of social classes
based on financial status. Classism contains attitude, behaviors, Structure of policies and
performs that are set up to advantage the upper class at the outflow of the lower class as
displayed in the story. The children are innocent they don, 't do differently on caste, color,
religion but these variations occur due to their parents otherwise we have seen Kezia and Elsa.
Some people do not fit in their society like Kezia, because they do not think the same way as the
people who are living there. People look differently at life according to their expectations and
intentions, a major group of them are just trying to gain power and money for other people
around and show off like, “Isabel.” The minor group can be those who believe in the goodness of
everything in, and that gives them hope to continue living against all bad things that are out there
in a cruel world, “Else.” He tried to aware of these things through children's eyes because their
world is simpler than grownups, ' world. We can also say that the older generation affects the
younger generation. As both Small girls like a lamp who is the sign of hope. We are doing
injustice with youth only our perception of races, color, and financial circumstances. Social
rejection occurs when an individual is gradually eliminated from a social connection or
social exchange, that's why people of lower social reputation are made victims of Persistent
sacrifice.
Story #03
In another country
By: Ernest Hemingway
The short story “in another country " is the story about the wounded soldiers who are pulled back
from the front lines due to injuries, loss of the war, trauma, and courage while combatting in
another territory. It is all about the troopers that what kinds of damage they got from battle Field
and what affects World War I left on them. Warriors also fought with mental trauma. War
destroys communities and families and often, disrupts the development of the social and
economic growth of the world. The impacts of war comprise long term physical and emotional
harm to children and adults, as well as a reduction in material and human assets. Death as a result
of wars is simply the "tip of the iceberg", other consequences are endemic poverty, malnutrition,
social decline, and disabilities like the author defines in the story about “soldiers and Major”,
while post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, are emotional effect as attributed in the tale. Major
knows that the machine will not fix his handicap but he had exclusively done it because he
wanted to evolve from depression. War does not only harm us but also hurts our loving ones,
those who lost their admiring one felt like this world, is ended for them as major lost his partner
during the assault for whom he waits forever and he stays in delay. The strength of these fighters
is much more than our thinking even after facing these injuries and loss which devastating
injuries due to the war differed their lives forever, after all, they are standing straightforward
with us and never interrogated from us about these sacrifices “The war was always there, but we
did not go to it anymore"
