ABSTRACT
Many configurations of modular multilevel converts have brought numerous advantages in high power
applications. This dissertation work will introduce a control scheme for series hybrid modular multilevel
converter (MMC).In the series hybrid MMC, the wave-shaping circuit is placed on the AC-side or DC-
side of the 2-level converter. The main challenge in series hybrid MMC is its control complexity. Hence
in this work, the internal dynamics such as circulating currents and the capacitor voltage ripples of the
series hybrid MMC will be analyzed and its control will be evaluated in the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation
software.
