Introduction: In the wake of the COVID-19pandemic, schools and universities were closed
in order to prevent the spread of this disease. Soon medical colleges also started online
classes to continue the teaching- learning process.

Aims and Objectives of this study: This study was aimed to compare and contrast the benefits
and drawbacks of online education vs. regular classes for medical students.

Methods- A cross sectional study was carried out using an online questionnaire which consisted
of 6 sections. The questionnaire inquired students about pattern and perception of online classes,
likes and dislikes about online classes, ability to understand various subjects via online classes
and their view on the future of online classes.

Results and conclusions- 582 responses from second to fourth year MBBS students of various
medical colleges across India were included. Only 5.4% students believe that online medical
education should completely replace traditional classroom learning, while 54% of the students
would prefer to persist with the traditional classroom method of learning. A sizeable 36.3% of
students believe that online education should partially replace classroom learning, reflecting the
possibility of a hybrid mode of education encompassing both online and offline education.
