Discovering Fine Arts
It's mind blowing how a course I took in middle school as a requirement has

really influenced my passion for my future career. When choosing electives for the

beginning of middle school, I wasn't too concerned with any of the options so I decided

to go along with Orchestra and that one year turned into three. The class sparked my

overall interest in art, and I began to explore different forms of fine arts. It's an

experience that I remember and appreciate for the rest of my life. Although it was just a

simple Orchestra class, it shaped my future by opening up a world of different

instruments, artistic designs such as drawing, and creative photography along with

video production.

It was the first day of my 6th grade class, I just left my 3rd period pre-algebra

class to enter the Orchestra room for the first time. The thoughts running through my

head as I was reconsidering taking the class were regretful. I was never really into

learning how to play such a classical instrument since it didn't seem interesting. I

remember the teacher saying, “today I will demonstrate the 4 instruments we will be

learning how to play, and you can decide which one you would like to choose”. I thought

to myself I would never want to play one of these instruments but when the teacher

started to play the violin, I really enjoyed how elegant and smooth the violin sounded. I

saw how passionate she was and how she really enjoyed what she was doing, I thought

to myself it would be really nice to have a skill in a musical instrument.

As I continued that year, I realized how far I had come from the beginning and

that this was starting to become a goal of mine to improve even more. The teacher

noticed how well I was doing and recommended me for advanced orchestra the next

year, skipping intermediate. I continued all throughout middle school and started

exploring more into the world of music. I had a guitar lying around my house for years,

and after learning the basic strings of violin, I decided to try and teach myself the guitar.

I watched thousands of youtube videos explaining how to hold the guitar, play the

strings and what each chord was. Having basic knowledge on the violin helped create a

fundamental structure of how to begin playing the guitar.

Once I got a hold of how to play guitar I didn't stop there; I ripped up gift wrap to

reveal a ukulele I got on Christmas day, and took my brother's piano that he never used.

I would sit in my room for hours on end perfecting my musical skills. Music wasn't

enough though, being surrounded by so much art made me want to seek out what else

there was. I got an inspiration for drawing and would randomly draw things that

interested me. Moving into highschool, I decided to go to a magnet school to further

educate myself in the field of fine arts. That's why I choose video production as my

program area. I hope I can advance my knowledge on my creative aspect of life and

really enjoy it. I walked in my program area class as a freshman. I was thinking that this

was not for me. But like my orchestra class I took in middle school, I slowly started to

begin to really enjoy learning more and more about the camera and the wonderful

things I can do wtih it. This opened up a new mind of creativity that I can incorporate in

my other passions.
