KADİR HAS
The founder of our University, the first Chairman of the Board
of Trustees, one of the prominent philanthropist businessmen
raised by the Republic of Turkey, owner of an order of merit,
departed dear Mr. Kadir believed that it was his greatest honor
and fidelity to give what he had earned from his country back
to his country; hence he worked throughout his life to repay the
“national service”. Owing to Kadir Has Foundation (HASVAK),
which he founded with his wife in 1991, he carried out
significant charitable works for the development of the country,
especially education and health.

In line with his will, he and his wife donated all their wealth to
this foundation.

Mr. Kadir Has, who always mentioned our university as his

“biggest realized dream“ however passed away in 2007 by
leaving immortal works, shall always ensoul within our
students whom he’s ever loved like his own children, as well
as in the philosophy of our university with his principles, world
view, devotion to his nation and love of education.

What is a course credit?
What is course selection
and its importance?
Course Credit is the denomination of the quantitative study put
forward by the students regarding any course.
Education in the faculty is executed in accordance with the instructional plan resolved by the relevant committees and
approved by the University Senate by taking into account the common courses determined by the Higher Education
Council and taking the opinions of the Departments/Institutes.
The amount of course credit-hours required in order to graduate from Departments/Majors of the Institutions is clearly
stated in their instructional plans.
The courses in the instructional plan consist of both compulsory and elective courses. Students are obliged to register
in both compulsory courses and elective courses, but they can choose the elective courses from a certain group of
courses.
Compulsory attendance requirement is 70% for theoretical courses and 80% regarding independent applied courses
such as laboratories, projects and workshops.
Students who fail to meet the compulsory attendance requirement cannot take the final exam and fail the course.
Students who register and pass the compulsory courses as well as the elective courses determined in the instructional
plan in such a way to obtain the total course credits set forth by the related departments and who have increased their
weighted grade point average to a minimum of 2.00, and completed all studies (including internships) specified in the
regulation are deemed to have completed their education and are considered eligible to be awarded with a diploma.

Student Advisors
Each student is assigned a faculty member advisor by the relevant department. The supervisor guides the student
throughout his/her higher education and gives coaching regarding the compulsory and elective courses he/she has to
take within the framework of Undergraduate, Double Major and Minor Programs.
You should plan and organize your courses coordinating with your advisors and have all courses approved by them
during the registration and renewal procedures in a semester.
You can get support from faculty members in all issues related to your academic life and it will also be appropriate to
discuss these issues with your advisors first.

15
Academic
Ethics

with an amateur spirit. The aim of the festival is to get rid of the fatigue of the year with dance, music and concerts. It is
the most comprehensive organization organized by our students, offering pleasant time with its huge entertainment
areas, where popular and famous national and international performers take the stage.

Rezan Has Museum
Rezan Has Museum, which has been organizing authentic exhibitions and cultural events since its
establishment in 2007, has a rich collection of archaeological artifacts, the earliest of which dates
back to 9,000 years ago. One of the most comprehensive, restored Urartian jewelry collections in
the world is exhibited in Rezan Has Museum. Rezan Has Museum, which has enriched its
collections in 2009, by including documents and objects belonging to the Cibali Tobacco Factory,
shares its collections which shed light on the industrial, economic, political and socio-cultural history
of Republic of Turkey with visitors through periodic exhibitions.
The museum consists of two main sections; thus thematic exhibitions of the museum are held in the
hall located in the upper floor whereas the collection of archaeological artifacts are exhibited in the
area surrounding two buildings from two different Imperial periods. Thus, the museum becomes an
extraordinary place that connects the past to the future with its 11th century Byzantine water cistern
and 17th century Ottoman structure.
