ASSSESSMENT OF TEACHING AND WORKING EFFFECTIVENESS

OF ZHEWEN WU
As TA for ECONOMICS 230D2-0002 (from January 2021 to May 2021)

Dear Colleague,

It is a great pleasure for me to provide you with my

assessment of the teaching and working effectiveness of Zhewen
Wu, one of the excellent teaching assistants who helped me
teaching the course ECON230D2-0002 at McGill University this
year.
ECON230D2 is the second part of the full year course,
ECON230D, which focuses on microeconomic theory. We use an
excellent textbook, Microeconomics (Perloff, 8th edition).
The special challenge in teaching this course in 2021 is that
all activities are online only.
Zhewen conducts office hours (one hour per week) by Zoom.
During the office hours, she explains of individual students
the fine points of the theory and clarifies any possible
misunderstanding.
She also conducts online conference sessions, where she
explains to students how to solve problem sets. Since these
conference sessions are recorded life, I often attend these
sessions to see how effective the TA communicates with
students. I am entirely impressed with the Zhewen’s
performance. She speaks very clearly and convincingly.

Zhewen is also involved in grading the midterm exam and the

final exam. I provide the teaching assistants with my
suggested answers to the problems, but quite often I made
mistakes and/or minor calculation errors. It is here that
Zhewen has been most helpful. She identifies my mistakes
quickly and provides the corrections.

I would rate Zhewen as one of the best teaching assistants

that have worked for me, during my long career at McGill
university.

I recommend her very highly.
