Good morning, Schoolify listeners!

DJ Rose, your 8AM-10AM DJ, is here to start your day off

with some hot and fresh news regarding DepEd TV.

A coalition of lawmakers is calling for a congressional investigation into the Department of

Education's television programme, citing allegations of late pay and unfair labor conditions
involving some of the program's producers and other staff. These allegations started December
of last year.

In the midst of battling COVID-19, the Department of Education partnered with Ei2tech to
produce videos that may help students in learning while being stuck at home because of the
pandemic. When job arrangements changed and other incidents happen that the producers
considered troubling, issues soon emerged. The Makabayan lawmakers found out that the
producers were promised a PHP60,000 worth of monthly compensation; however, the
producers later discovered that their salary was tied to a work quota, despite their protests.

They also pleaded that our government should stop this kind of act already. Agencies should
not practice non-coverage of benefits, may it be governmental or social benefits.

It is always a wonder to me why issues like this keep on surfacing when these workers only
want to provide for their family, at the same time, enjoy their craft? If I may just add, according
to the Bureau of Working Conditions, an employee must get paid depending on the number of
hours they worked. They are entitled to night shift pay in addition to their regular pay if their
work hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Another thing, if they work for more than 8
hours a day, an overtime pay should be issued to them.

I know that I am just a mere student, but may I just remind their employers that we are
experiencing pandemic right now. Your show's producers and staff are away from their families
to support them financially, no matter how dangerous the situation is. Yes, they are fortunate
that they are given work amidst everything, but is this how you are going to repay them? For
their sacrifice?

No workers should experience this kind of unjust treatment, especially during these hard times.
Compensate them for their hard work and sacrifice. That is all they and their families are asking
for.
