Combatting Insurgency Through Journalism

Insurgency is rebellion. It is all about the opposition from the authority and is the reason why Philippine
government is powerless to have progress and control the large piece of the country. According to my
research, "This conflict has lasted more than 40 years and killed tens of thousands of combatants and
civilians. Planning their attacks and securing weapons and funds locally;moreover, the insurgents have
strong roots in the different regions where they operate and have proved hard to defeat",by the
International Crisis Group on February 14,2011. The NPA (New People's Army) has more than 5,000
fighters, but do you know what's more interesting? They still have their supporters, and endlessly
recruiting new citizens. They even secured innumerable weapons and mercilessly ambushing throughout
the archipelago.

The cause of this is complex. One possible cause is poverty and lack of education.People nowadays
changed, diligency turns to laziness. We are old enough to think that laziness breeds poverty especially
when that certain person isn't educated. This would probably leads them to join armed groups and
engaged in kidnapping people for a ransom as livelihood.

The second cause is the neglection of the government. I can say that it is one, let's used Mindanao as an
example.Mindanao was once called as the 'Land Of Promise' because of its expansive economic
potentials, but the past administration didn't give attention to that promise. The undeveloped economy
leads to consider Mindanao as the land of terror because of insurgency.

If this insurgency won't stop,Civil war will follow.Damaging lots of properties and losing countless lives
are expected to happen. And, nobody likes it, even you.

As I ask one of my friend about the solution of insurgency, she replied "They keep on fighting, how could
this end?". A hopeless answer swallowed into her mind. However, hope is real! Solution is, too.

Government is the solution. I sincerely believed before dealing insurgents, we have to deal with the
problems of the government itself. They can't provide a vivid solution when officials are busy pocketing
money from the government. The change from those who have powers is a must.Once in the
government wants and determined to do the right thing, then those tangible solutions needed to stop
insurgency follows unexpectedly.
