Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the third and final film in the prequel trilogy
of the Star Wars franchise. The movie is about Anakin Skywalker’s corruption to the dark side of
the force and his transition into the Sith Lord, Darth Vader. The chancellor of the senate, who is
secretly the sith lord Darth Sidious, has been pulling strings for years, controlling both the Clone
and Droid armies who have been at war against each other while he has been waiting for the
right jedi that he can convince to become his apprentice and join the dark side. He spends a lot
of time with Anakin, telling him how the ways of the Jedi Order are wrong and persuading him to
give up his jedi ideals to truly master the force so he can become more powerful than he had
ever dreamed. Anakin wants to protect the love of his life, Padme Amidala, who he learns is
pregnant with his twin children, so he joins the Sith and Darth Sidious orders a mass execution
of all the Jedi, with only a couple surviving, including Anakin’s master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-
Wan and Anakin have an emotional, climactic battle at the end of the film with Obi-Wan winning,
but Anakin being brought to near death in Lava, but survives by donning the famous Darth
Vader outfit. The film ends with Padme dying in child-birth, her children being separated to keep
them safe, and Obi-Wan bringing Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker, to the planet Tatooine.
Anakin’s transition from a jedi to a sith lord is done amazingly throughout the film.
There are multiple things in the film that support Anakin’s decision of turning on the Jedi.
He has children on the way, but it is against the Jedi ways to have a family, so his love for
Padme and his future children are huge in his decision. The Jedi also refuse Anakin the rank of
master, even though he sits on the Jedi Council, which is seen as a huge slight against Anakin
and is a giant factor in his decision. The film has so many scenes with Darth Sidious talking with
Anakin and persuading him to do things that are against the Jedi way of life, and while he is
conflicted in his decisions early on in the film, he eventually has no problem doing these things,
including killing the Jedi. The final battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin is the best fight in the
Star Wars franchise.
The battle takes place on the lava filled planet of Mustafar, with the two of them jumping
all around on metal that is suspended above the lava on the planet. The emotion the two actors
give off is astounding, with Anakin being filled with hate against the Jedi and corrupted by the
evil that the dark side of the force brings, while Obi-Wan is feeling hopeless and sad seeing his
best friend who he considers a brother this way. While choreography wise it might not be the
best, it is the emotional conflict between the two characters who we have seen grow with each
other over the course of the trilogy that makes it stand above all other fights in the franchise.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the best film in the franchise for these reasons and
many others.
