Atomic Theory

04.04 Jayla Horner.

Democitrus was a Greek philosopher, during his time alive he wrote about many topics
circulating around Politics, mathematics, and science. He is mainly known as one of the first
individuals to form the idea of atoms.

Democitrus followed in the footsteps of his mentor leucippus, who had originally come up with
the atomic theory, his father also played a prominent role in his life resulting in his love for
science.

Around 400 b.c Democitrus believed that matter could not be infinitely divided, this made the
thought of atoms existing in a void space.

Democitrus theory:

1. All matter consists of invisible particles, atoms.

2. Atoms are indistructable.
3. Atoms are solid but invisible.
4. Atoms are homogenous.
5. Atoms come in all shapes and sizes.

The image below is democritus's atomic model, a sphere with no electrons, protons, or
neutrons. This is the first atomic model. Today's models are very different, they harbour the
protons, electrons, and neutrons. This model below is an inert.
