02 Checkpoint 2

1. Is it ethical to have a hidden purpose in your speech? Justify your answer.

Ethical public speaking pertains to providing honest facts without deception or
distortion of information. It is not ethical for a public speaker to include malicious intent on a
particular speech for personal gains or purpose. If ever there is, the purpose of the speech is
already void. It is idle to involve the audience if your soul purpose is to deliver a material that is
not going to have any use for them.
As it was stated in the handouts, a self-centered speech defeats the purpose of public
speaking, as every public speaker should be an audience-centered speaker. In the nature of this,
there are vital steps to avoid creating a selfish material. This is through the process of speech
customization.
