“I skipped lot of nights to get to where I am”

Niloy Ahasan has been performing live music since 2008 and now he is a reputed music
producer, composer, a DJ and has introduced lot of new technologies and instruments that
were rare in Bangladesh. His career as a music producer and composer started in 2010,
having performing DJ shows in the most elite clubs of Dhaka, royal wedding, corporate,
commercial and private parties. But it was not a piece of cake to reach there. As he states “I
skipped lot of nights to get to where I am”, sacrificing countless nights to focus on his work,
truly brought a new revolution to the music industry in Bangladesh.

“My mother believed in me when no one did…”

In 2010 Niloy started as a DJ, performing under some renowned DJ of those era. There is a
social stigma attached to those who choose musician as a profession. It was a tough
moment for him as there was no one to support. Finally, after doing some successful events,
Niloy could see return on investment. But it was hardly enough. This is when his mother
came forward to help and with her contribution of 100,000 tk, Niloy purchased his first DJ
controller and a laptop. Business started to boom. Now that he can attend more shows,
with in few years he purchased a full professional set up worth 600,000 tk with his own
earning and now has his own music studio. He owns CDJ 2000 Nexus (pioneer) player, DJM
Nexus (pioneer) mixer, Rane SL4 controller, senheiser hd 25 (Limited Edition) headphones to
name a few. He felt the urge to help others, the youth of the industry. Thus, he started to
introduce high-tech equipment’s to the Bangladeshi industry. This is where “Tremendous DJ
equipment and gears” took birth. He ships DJ equipment and gears from USA, Malaysia,
Thailand, which are not popular here in Bangladesh and gives an opportunity to the youth to
do better in the music sector. He continues “Its my responsibility to introduce these new
technologies and equipment’s for the next generation”

“I dropped out of University to pursue my dream”

Niloy completed his higher studies from CODA (College of Development Alternative) and
soon got admitted to AIUB. Like most of his friends he was studying business, but that did
not seem to interest him. He said how he used to skip classes after classes and even
examinations only to attend late night Shows and Concerts. He never faced such dilemma.
The opportunity cost was very precise. In one hand if you are not a graduate under
respectable subject, the society would not accept you, on the other hand you can’t focus on
studies because you are very much caught up with your passion. For which ultimately, he
dropped out of AIUB (American International University Bangladesh) to pursue his dreams.
“It was not easy” he said, “The whole world seemed to be upset on me, but I could not let
myself down”. But that did not hold him back to get his higher education. Later in life, he
joined Green University, studying ‘Media and Journalism’ and planned to get his degree by
the end of 2021.
“hard work finally paying off”

Dj Niloy has performed in the most elite stages of all. International Club, German Club,
Canadian club, Gulshan club, American club, The Westin, La Meredian and Royal Weddings
to name a few. He has worked with many international artists like Sebastien Leger, Edward
Maya, DJ Nyk and collaborated with Uniliver, Sigma, BPL and so on. For his contribution he
gained recognition from American ambassador, Canadian ambassador and was awarded for
excellence in the music sector. An article was published in Daily Jaijaidin newspaper talking
about his success, breaking the stereotype of a country where music industry and DJing was
not considered to be socially acceptable profession. Niloys reputation for quality work
began to take hold in the industry. He was the chief guest when International artist Diplo
visited Bangladesh for the very first time. He also hosted Tremendous academy music
workshop 2014. Niloy Ahasan’s bottomless enthusiasm serves as a reminder that an artist is
a creator. The rest as they say is music history.

“I’m different from others because…”

Dj Niloy don’t consider himself to be unique but he always tries to bring uniqueness in
whatever he does. It is challenging to recognize the youth enthusiasm and go with the
current trend and also to please people from various culture and region. Adaptability is the
key. Niloy talked about how he used to prepare for foreign guests, study their music sense
based on tertiary sources on internet, and come up with a remix of his own, which a very
few people can pull of in Bangladesh. Its that little space that Niloy operates which makes
him unique from others. Niloy has invested on software’s for visual shows and better-
quality sound, software’s what a normal DJ would think is unnecessary. It comes down
to every single detail. The genre he is specialized is in Hip-hop, Electronic music, deep
house- house music, which uses tones of drum machine, soft keyboard sound pads,
advanced cord structures and most noticeably muted basslines. In other words, his
performance is very unique from the general DJs.

“If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough”

To conclude I will leave you with DJ Niloy’s answer to the question; “Do you have any advice
for young entrepreneurs?” To this he replied with one of his most favorite quote “If your
dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough” and continues “You need to have the
right mind set, stay focused and always remember there is always Al Mighty Allah beside
you. Knowledge is of no use if you don’t apply it. Never keep a stone unturned. Crave for
success and success shall be yours. And make sure to not steal others work, there is no fun
in it.”
