We use capital letters for:

 the start of a sentence


 the first person pronoun, “I”
 people, places and nationalities (Sue, Lisbon, American)
 days and months
Punctuation marks

 full stop .
 comma ,
 question mark ?
 exclamation mark !
 apostrophe ‘
 colon :
