Overview:

Shipwreck a book written by Richard Platt, and it was published in the United States by the DK
Publishing, Inc. This book was published in New York, NY. The book Shipwreck is a non-fiction book and
it was made to help us to learn more about Shipwrecks and how they are caused. The theme of this
book is telling us about how ships get shipwrecked and what can cause them to get shipwrecked. It also
talks about other little things like the dangers in the ocean and what to stay away from when you are
driving a ship. It informs us about the lifeboats which should be on every ship that is on the water, and
tells how to release them. The main problem that the author wrote about in the book Shipwreck was
that many ships were getting shipwrecked, and the author wrote about many kinds of shipwrecks. The
author told us what ships got shipwrecked and how they did. Many ships get shipwrecked because of ice
bergs and collisions and sometimes battles between ships. The author named many ways that a ship can
get shipwrecked in his book Shipwreck. They are all in the paragraphs for the different shipwrecks. (All
the ships that were shipwrecked have names)

Purpose:

The author’s purpose for writing the book Shipwreck was to inform readers about the different
shipwrecks. He also wanted to inform the reader how all of the shipwrecks occurred. Furthermore, he
wanted to inform the audience where the shipwrecks took place. For example, what country or if it were
in the United States then what state it took place in, and it was made to inform what ocean or bay it
took place in. The intended audience is going to be middle and high-school students that are in a
literature or reading class. They will probably read the book if they are interested in the subject or if
their teacher assigns them the book to do a project on it.
Background information

His education was that he studied engineering at University of Newcastle upon Tyne, 1972–73;
Newcastle College of Art and Design, diploma in art, 1974; Leeds Polytechnic University, B.A. (first-class
honors), 1977; attended Central School of Art. H e was a photographer for many years; he was also a
teacher for photographers for several years. He was also a freelance writer in 1985. Akira Yoshimura was
an author of the book about shipwrecks as well. Gordon Korman was an author of the book, Island, and
it is about shipwrecks just like the book, Shipwreck, by Richard Platt. Nathanial Philbrick wrote the book,
In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, which is also about shipwrecks.

Evaluation

I think the book is a very interesting and entertaining book because it tells about the shipwrecks that
have happened in the past. It describes them and shows pictures of them. It describes how it
shipwrecked and how many people were killed on the ship. It tells how some people got away which
were from the lifeboats that are supposed to be on every giant ship, and it says that rescue boats saved
many that were in the water. Even though, many of them were saved, several of them died. It is
defiantly a memorable book because it has many memories from the shipwrecks in the past, so I find it
very memorable. I agree with the book because it tells about the dangers in the ocean, and it shows
pictures and tells about what you should wear if you ever going deep sea diving to see any of the ships. I
think it is wonderful that the author included all these things in the book because it can help captains of
ships to know more about shipwrecks. This is great because then they know what to look out for when
they are driving their ships. It also helps to know what to avoid in the ocean. I disagree with the way he
set up the book where there are so many little sections that describe the shipwrecks, and I think that he
should have had it all in one paragraph and tell how many people died in the shipwrecks in the little
sections on each page. The book suggests that captains of ships be careful about icebergs and many
other things in the ocean because no matter how safe or big you ship is anything could happen to it. This
is because the Titanic was supposed to be the safest ship in the world, but a little iceberg tore up the
hull on it. The book doesn’t leave out anything that I know of because when I read it, I thought it had
everything it needed to have, but I’m not a specialist so I don’t know. I like this book a lot so I agree with
the author of this book, shipwrecks, because it is a really good book, and it includes everything you need
to know about a shipwreck. The book made me think more about ships and how they get shipwrecked.
It made think deeper into the lives of people that are on a ship and how you need to get on a ship of
someone who actually knows what they are doing, so you know you will be safe. This book isn’t related
to me at all because ei have never been on a ship only on a boat one time and it was tiny. This book is
very useful for captains and people who want to go deep sea diving to look at the shipwrecks under the
water.

Summary

This book is a great book, and I really liked it. It was better than I thought it was going to be. This book is
a great book to read if you are interested in shipwrecks or if you are a captain that wants to know more
about them so you can avoid them. My overall rating for this book is five stars.
