Assessment of Unit

• Teacher – Have a skills test, physical performance test, and a written test at the

end of the unit to see if the students understood the information.

The data were analyzed using mixed models with result as dependent variable and

age as fixed explanatory variable with an athlete-specific random variable to

account for within-athlete dependency. Separate analyses were performed by

discipline and sex. We used estimated marginal means with to produce plots of

expected progression by gender and exercise. Descriptive statistics are presented as

mean and standard deviation (SD) in addition to percent (%) for change. Effect
magnitudes (based on Cohen’s d) across categories were interpreted categorically

as small, moderate or large using the scale presented by Hopkins et al. All analyses

were performed using SAS software version 9.2
