| write to announce the conclusion of Supply Skid Row and inform you that we
had great success in making a positive impact!
This began as a short-term effort to provide supplies to unhoused communi-
ties in LA while businesses were closed due to COVID-19. Housing instability
is an issue close to my heart. Personally, homelessness and addiction have
impacted my family. Professionally, | helped support and evaluate a Housing
First program in Camden, NJ, which used housing as medicine, prior to law
school.
With my background in community health, prevention of COVID-19 in Skid
Row was one of my first concerns when the shelter-in-place orders started
rolling out. | wondered among other things, how do you shelter-in-place with
no shelter? Where do you wash your hands with no public
restrooms? How do you get updates about recommended
é NN safety precautions that change almost daily with no
internet or radio? The answers to these questions
were obvious: you don’t.
So, | set out with limited resources to see how | could help ensure that our
unhoused neighbors were not overlooked victims in the pandemic. Fortunate-
ly, LA has many savvy service providers and activists who were already mo-
izing to respond. | took my cues from them in designing supply kits and
identifying distribution locations. When | first started fundraising, | hoped to
raise a few hundred dollars to cover 100 supply kits and send a couple of
-® boxes of supplies to a soup kitchen. | was stunned by the generosity of my
friends, family, and USC community.TOGETHER, WE RAISED $2,621.05!
The success of this project was entirely due to our collective efforts, and |
cannot thank you enough!
We funded the distribution of the following supplies and more over 10 weeks
