What is MTSS?

A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)


is a systemic, continuous-improvement
framework in which data-based problem
solving and decision-making is practiced
across all levels of the educational system
for supporting students.
Roles and Responsibilities

Administrator
 Facilitate MTSSLT meetings for school based MTSS guidance and
implementation.
 Work with MTSSLT to provide professional development to build capacity with
staff regarding the fundamentals of MTSS.
 Appoint a chair for individual problem solving.
 Attend meetings for individual problem solving.
 Oversee the integrity of MTSS within the school.
 Conduct Instructional Integrity Checks.
 Support and ensure effective communication of the school’s plan to administer
universal and targeted screening.
 Attend teacher PLC/team meetings on a regular basis to provide support and
guidance in instruction, curriculum, environment and problem solving.

SIX Critical Components of MTSS

 Engage in leadership by communicating vision and mission, resources for


planning and implementing instruction and intervention, and ensuring staff
have needed data.

 Build capacity/instruction for implementation by providing ongoing


professional development and coaching, scheduling, and processes for
engaging in data-based problem solving.

 Communicate and collaborate by ensuring consensus and feedback,


involving stakeholders and building infrastructure to communicate and work
with families and other community partners.

SIX Critical Components of MTSS

 Utilize data-based problem solving for student


outcomes across content areas, grade levels, and
tiers, as well as, use problem solving to address
barriers to school wide implementation.

 Examine, define and facilitate both academic and social-emotional behavioral


instruction and interventions using a three-tiered instructional/intervention
model.

 Evaluate and adjust assessment practices to ensure availability of accurate


and useful data to inform instruction and interventions – Data Evaluation
Roles and Responsibilities

MTSSLT/PST Chair – Ms. Kimberly

 Appointed by the administrator to coordinate MTSSLT and individual problem


solving team efforts within the school.

 Coordinate and lead with the MTSSLT roles and responsibilities.

 Coordinate MTSSLT meetings to include:


○ Creating an agenda for each meeting
○ Facilitate school wide problem solving and data evaluation
○ Facilitate individual student problem solving when appropriate.
○ Ensure all paperwork and information is up-to-date and well organized
throughout the school year and at times of transition.
○ Gather student data from PLC teams to discuss with MTSSLT.
○ Make decisions on next steps for interventions.
Roles and Responsibilities

MTSS Coordinator – Ms. Kimberly

 Attend monthly district MTSS meetings.


 Participate in district professional development.
 After meetings and PD, meet with Administration to plan for dissemination of
information.
 Disseminate information to staff in a timely manner.
 Provide District MTSS Coordinator information and data needed.
 Coordinate activities related to MTSS (data collection, SEL/Behavior, Academic
and Attendance activities)
Roles and Responsibilities

Grade Level/Content Area/PLC Team – Dimension A2 Grade Level Rep


 PLC Chair – provide support regarding instructional decisions, monitoring
progress, data analysis, and problem-solving practices at PLC meetings as well
as MTSSLT meetings.
 PLC Chair will facilitate meetings to:
○ Schedule weekly meeting dates to meet with grade level PLC, content area
PLC to disseminate information shared at MTSSLT meetings.
○ Confirm the hypotheses made by the MTSSLT regarding school-wide data
and group data.
○ Use student data and match students to interventions and progress
monitoring needed.
○ Use the Data Mapping/Individual Student Intervention Plan to begin
documentation.
○ Provide intervention results to MTSSLT.
Roles and Responsibilities

School Counselors

 Attend MTSSLT meetings as well as teacher team meetings when needed.


 Assist with completing observations of students
 Organize and facilitate 504 meetings as well as ensure communication and
implementation of 504 plans with all involved parties. (Mrs. McLamb)
 Provide Counselor enrichment lessons
 Work with individual/small group counseling as needed
 Assist with designing and implementing behavior plans
 Lead MTSSLT through the functional behavior assessment process when
students show the need for intensive behavior support as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities

Classroom Teachers

 Attend scheduled teacher team meetings (PLC) and MTSSLT meetings when
needed.
 Participate in the problem-solving process regarding instruction for core,
supplemental and intensive systems.
 Assist with plan to administer universal screening and targeted assessments.
 Deliver and monitor well-defined core academic and SEL/Behavior instruction.
 Provide and monitor well-defined interventions and progress monitoring to
students indicating academic and SEL/Behavior risk.
 Communicate with teachers, parents, MTSSLT about student progress.
 Help in completing Individual Student Intervention Plan (data mapping) during
the process of interventions and progress monitoring.
Roles and Responsibilities

Individual Problem Solving Team- Dimension A2

 Follow the process outlined in the Tier 3 Decision Guide.


 Ensure the Individual Student Intervention Plan (Data Mapping Documentation)
is complete.
 Consult with the EC Support Specialist.
 Determine student needs:
○ Intervention Change?
○ Communicate with parents
○ Collect additional data
○ Consider need for EC referral
 Share discussions and/or concerns with PLCs
Roles and Responsibilities

EC Program Specialist – Mrs. Mary McKenzie

 Serve on MTSSLT as needed


 May assist with the Individual Student Problem Solving as time permits
 May assist in conducting observations for students as time permits
 May be involved at MTSSLT meeting when a student is being considered for EC
referral as time permits
 Perform educational testing as requested
 Stay current on county norms and methods of comparing student progress
 Provide support to parents who have concerns or who are
requesting evaluations
 Provide support to EC staff in interpreting and utilizing universal or targeted
screening data.
