Mr. Cristian Alexandru Groza, a Fulbright doctoral student at the University of California, Berkeley
from the University of Bucharest, urgently needs access to the Tom Lantos Papers stored at the
Bancroft library, specifically cartons 105, 109, 111, and 138 for his project on Romanian-American
Foreign Diplomacy between 1965-1989, with particular focus on human rights. This was a special
interest as you know of Senator Lantos.

I want to add my full endorsement to his request. These papers are necessary for Mr. Groza to
complete his research. It would be a tremendous shame if he came all the way from Bucharest to the
resting place of this material and could not see it.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could produce a letter for Mr. Groza that he can submit at the
Bancroft Library in order to access this collection.

Mr. Groza, as recipient of a prestigious Fulbright award, is making excellent progress in his
research, and stands to occupy an important position in the scholarly community of his home
country, and deserves every support.
