INTRODUCTION

M ore than ever before, the devil is out to steal, kill

and destroy the destinies of those who call upon the
Name of the LORD, knowing that his time is short.
Sadly, many believers are caught off-guard and become easy
preys to his wiles and fiery darts because they lack the
understanding of the reality of spiritual warfare, and have let
down their defence system - The whole Armour of God.

This expository book offers revelatory insights into how you can
stay on guard and walk in victory always by putting on:
- The Breastplate of Righteousness
- The Belt of Truth
- The Helmet of Salvation

THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 1

AT ATTENTION OR AT EASE?

The Reality of Spiritual Battles

In Ephesians chapter 6, Apostle Paul began to talk about the need
to be strong in God. He further unveils the reality of the spiritual
battle that believers are engaged in and the necessity of putting
on the whole armour of God so we might be able to withstand
the onslaught of the enemy. We see this from verse 10 of that
chapter. Take a look.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and

in the power of his might. Put on the whole
armour of God, that ye may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not
against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the
rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:10-12

1
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

I want you to take note of the word – wiles, which refers to

schemes and strategies. The devil has wiles, tricks and strategies
crafted as weapons against the believer.

Again, note that the scripture says that we wrestle, not ‘wrestled’.
This speaks of a present and ongoing duel, and not just
something in the past. The wrestling is on even today.

Every day you wake up, there is a battle going on in the realms
of the spirit. There are principalities and powers in that realm
who are on the offensive against your faith, your family, your
work, your ministry and all that concerns you.

Many fail to realize that the devil is always strategizing and lying
in wait to launch an attack. They have been deceived to think
that the devil is a fictitious character or one who is unreal or
unconscious of their very existence, but the Bible tells us to
watch out for him.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary

the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour:
1Peter 5:8
The devil is fully on the offensive and not in any way passive,
hence we are to be vigilant. The believer must thus be alert and
at attention.

2
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

An Ongoing Warfare

Again, in 2 Corinthians 10 from verse 3, Apostle Paul reiterates

that we are in a WARFARE, confirming again the word used in
Ephesians, which is to WRESTLE.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war

after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds;
2Corinthians 10:3-4

Furthermore, we must know that our fight is not against flesh

and blood. Someone may
feel or say that a certain
individual is responsible for
his or her present troubles,
but the Bible says our fight
is not against flesh and
blood but against
principalities, powers etc.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but

against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12

3
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Nobody has the power to fight you except they are being
empowered from the realms of the spirit. Remember the words
of Jesus when he says one cannot have authority except it has
been given from above.

Thou couldest have no power at all against me,

except it were given thee from above:
John 19:11

Even though men oppose you, remember that your battle is not
against any man but against spiritual forces.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but

against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12

There are those who rule the darkness of this world and those
are the ones you fight. The scriptures say that are in high places.

against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12b

There are high or heavenly places in the realms of the spirit, and
this is where spiritual wickedness operate. That explains why the
devil said;

4
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

I will exalt my throne above the stars and be

like the most high
Isaiah 14:14
The stars are in heavenly places. Though the devil operates in
such high places, this does not suggest that he has the ultimate
power, because God occupies the highest place. That is why He
is called the Most High and the Highest because He lives alone in
that realm. This was reflected in the words of the Angel Gabriel
while speaking to Mary.

…the power of the Highest shall overshadow

thee.
Luke 1:35
God is indeed the Highest! (You can read more about this in my
book: The Mystery of Altars)

Three Things to Know About the Devil

To win in a battle, you have to understand your enemy and know
his strategies. This is one area many believers fail in their quest
to put the devil under.

Some persons are of the opinion that the devil does not exist, or
that he is powerless and inconsequential against the believer.
These views are unscriptural and outright dangerous to hold.

To begin with, you need to know that the devil is powerful.

5
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Secondly, the devil is nothing before God, because He was made

by God. He is therefore like a toy or like a paper in the hand of
God.

Finally, understand that the devil is nothing before you as a

believer only because you are in God.

These three things must be

properly understood for
you to enjoy constant
victory in a spiritual
warfare.

The moment a believer says

the devil is powerless, he
becomes careless, and that
is what the devil wants you
to do. But when you work with the understanding that the devil
is powerful, but that God is far more powerful than he is, and
that you are more powerful than him also because you are in
God, then you are poised to defeat the enemy.

The Necessity of Abiding in God

What makes the devil powerless before you is the fact that you
are in Christ in God. Therefore, you cannot afford to live outside
of God. This insight will help you to live with the consciousness
of abiding in God and being at attention, not at ease.

6
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Abide in me, and I in you.

John 15:4a

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a

branch, and is withered; and men gather
them, and cast them into the fire, and they are
burned.
John 15:6

Your identification with Christ, your immersion into Him, and

your location in Him are three equations necessary for your
constant victory in Christ. If this position is altered, then your
power over the devil is lost. So as a child of God, you cannot live
a victorious life until you
identify the truth that you are
only powerful because you are
in Christ, living in Him,
working in union with Him,
working in obedience to God,
and following His plan and
purposes. Apart from Him,
you cannot claim to have
power over the devil.

This revelation should strengthen your resolve to stay in

connection with God and to maintain unbroken fellowship with
Him. Do not be careless because of the doctrine that says since

7
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

you are a new creature and old things are passed away, you may
start living the way you like, eating when you like and sleeping
how you like etc. The devil’s aim is to get you to that place where
you become careless and relaxed so much that you no longer
pray, fast, and stay vigilant so he may gain access into your life
unawares and bring sudden destruction.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary

the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour:
1Peter 5:8

So what must you do? The Bible shows us.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13

Taking unto you the whole armour of God helps you to be at

attention and sufficiently prepared to withstand the devil. Take
note that it says ‘take unto you’. In other words, this is not
something that God will do for you. The word ‘take’ as used here
means ‘lambano’ in the Greek, which means to seize it. You have
to grab and lay hold on the whole armour of God and personalize
it.

The scripture also says you take the armour ‘unto you’, which
stresses the need to personalize the armour. You do not share the

8
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

armour with anyone else, not even with your spouse. You are
expected to take the whole armour to yourself because the battle
is personal.

The Mystery of the Evil Day

Looking again at Ephesians chapter 6, you would notice that the
Bible says the whole armour is what you need to withstand in the
evil day. What is the evil day?

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of

God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13

The evil day is that day where the devil has the power, the right
as well as legal documents to fight you. This is the day where
things suddenly turn around and it seems as though all hell is let
loose. Since this can happen anytime, Paul informs us ahead of
time to be ready against that evil day where God steps aside to
allow your armour to be tested.

Just like in a school where most of the term is dedicated to

teaching and practical sessions, certain other days are designated
for examination. In those days, the teacher leaves you to yourself,
with no assistance to test the knowledge you have acquired. This
can be likened to the evil day where you are left to your armour.

9
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

It is when God pushes you into battle and says ‘show the enemy
what I have put in you and make me proud son! ’.

The Example of Job

Job, as a biblical example, was left alone on his evil day. Satan
had the opportunity and legal backing to fight against him on
many fronts, and he was left alone to withstand the onslaught of
the enemy.

When this day of trouble comes, you must be equipped and

ready. You do not need to wait until you are in trouble before
you think of what to do. If you are going to live in victory all
through your life, you must be equipped and properly dressed
for battle.

We will discuss more on this in the coming chapters.

10
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 2

THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

J ust as we began to discuss in chapter 1, God has already

provided every believer with His whole armour so we may
be able to stand in the evil day and withstand every onslaught
of the evil one.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of
God, that ye may be able to withstand in the
evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13

In order for us to take up and personalize the armour, we must

begin to study and understand each piece of the armour and
how we can use them to push back and defeat the enemy every
day.

Let us begin in this chapter by discussing the breastplate of

righteousness.
…and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;
Ephesians 6:14b

11
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

What is Righteousness?
Righteousness is the justification of a man's soul that gives him
the authority to speak to God and from God as God with the
necessary obedience and compliance. It is the nature of
justification that makes it right for a man to speak with God and
speak from God as though God were speaking, and thus get the
necessary compliance and obedience from creation.

However, apart from being a nature, righteousness can also

operate in several other forms. In my book, Dress Code for
Entering into the Courts of Heaven, I have taught extensively
about the concept of righteousness, the types of righteousness
and the various forms of righteousness. You would do well to get
a copy of that book for an extensive study on the subject of
righteousness.

The focus in this chapter however, would be to give the

understanding of how righteousness functions as an armour for
the believer.

Righteousness as an Armour

Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil

maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and
it displeased him that there was no judgment.
And he saw that there was no man, and
wondered that there was no intercessor:

12
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

therefore his arm brought salvation unto him;

and his righteousness, it sustained him.

Isaiah 59:15-16

Did you see that? God went to battle and He was sustained by
righteousness. The next verse makes it even clearer.

For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and

an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put
on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and
was clad with zeal as a cloke.

Isaiah 59:17

The armour of righteousness is a breastplate that protects your

chest region from the fiery darts of the enemy. This is why
Apostle Paul while admonishing us to put on the whole armour
of God, stresses the importance of the breastplate of
righteousness.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be

able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Stand
therefore, having your loins girt about with
truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;

Ephesians 6:11,14

Your understanding and consciousness of righteousness is an

armour to you as a believer. It is as a breastplate that covers your

13
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

chest region. It is what the devil wants you to carelessly put off
so he can attack you. When you are not sure of your salvation,
you become vulnerable to the attack of the devil

The breastplate of righteousness preserves your life by keeping

your chest region protected
from the arrows of the
enemy, because once he can
hit you in that region, he can
deliver a fatal blow that could
put you down permanently.

This is why it is important to

have a proper understanding
of how this important armour works, and how to keep it intact
at all times.

The Two Pieces of the Breast Plate of Righteousness

The breastplate of righteousness is a two-piece armour, with

each piece protecting the left and right sides of your chest region.
In the book of 1Thessalonians, chapter 5, Apostle Paul gives us
an insight into how the breastplate of righteousness works.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting

on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an
helmet, the hope of salvation.
1 Thessalonians 5:8

14
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Just as the scripture above shows us, the breastplate of

righteousness is divided into two, one half is FAITH and the other
half is LOVE. Thus, another name for the breastplate of
righteousness is the breastplate of FAITH AND LOVE, showing us
that faith and love are two important factors necessary to sustain
your armour of righteousness.

Righteousness Operates by Love.

Righteousness is the enabling power of God deposited in you. It

makes you do what is right.
You cannot be righteous by
yourself, no matter how hard
you try. This is why God sent
Jesus to die for you.

When Jesus died for you, He

gave you righteousness and
you became born again.
Then you begin to walk in
love, and when you walk in
love, you cannot sin, because love is the fulfilling of the Law.

Love works no ill towards its neighbor, therefore when you walk
in love, you fulfil the Law completely.

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another:

for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the

15
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery,

Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou
shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet;
and if there be any other commandment, it is
briefly comprehended in this saying, namely,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is
the fulfilling of the law.

Romans 13:8-10

I can walk in love because I have the nature of righteousness in

me, and if I walk in love, I have power over sin and there is no
condemnation whatsoever in my heart. However, when I find it
difficult to walk in love, I can switch to the other half of my
breastplate, which is faith.

Righteousness Operates by Faith

Let us take the analogy of a particular airplane. It has two

engines so that when one fails, the other kicks in. That way, a
disaster can be averted in the situation where one of the engines
fail, giving room for the airplane to be landed safely.

In the same way, God already made provision for you to have
love and faith so that your armour of righteousness may not be
compromised at any time. When love fails, you can switch to
faith.

16
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

It takes faith to operate in righteousness. As I already taught

extensively in my book, The Dress Code for Entering into the
Courts of Heaven, the nature of righteousness was given to you
at salvation not because of anything you have done right,
therefore your wrongdoing cannot take it away. The devil knows
however that he cannot get you down until you begin to believe
that you have a problem with God. When you begin to believe
that you have a problem with God, you lose faith.

For instance, how do you know that you are born again and
righteous? By faith! Faith establishes in your heart that even
though you do not feel righteous, you are righteous.

Remember that the armour of righteousness is a consciousness,

so when you lose the consciousness of righteousness, you lose the
armour and may get attacked. That is why the devil is not really
trying to attack you as much as he is trying to make you lose your
armour of righteousness, because if he attacks you with your
armour on he cannot deal a fatal blow.

Therefore, for you to stay protected, your faith must be active.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting

on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an
helmet, the hope of salvation.
1Thessalonians 5:8

17
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about

with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;
Ephesians 6:14

When the devil accuses you, the love side of your breastplate may
not work. That is the time to switch to faith and say, ‘Satan, you
cannot accuse me because God loves me. I am holy, unblameable,
unreprovable in His sight’.

And, having made peace through the blood of

his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto
himself; by him, I say, whether they be things
in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that
were sometime alienated and enemies in your
mind by wicked works, yet now hath he
reconciled in the body of his flesh through
death, to present you holy and unblameable
and unreproveable in his sight:

Colossians 1:20-22

Jesus Christ died to present us to Himself as holy, unblameable

and unreproveable in God’s sight. This is the reality. Therefore,
when the devil comes to accuse you by bringing all your mistakes
to fore, you need to remember what Christ already did.

18
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if

righteousness come by the law, then Christ is
dead in vain.
Galatians 2:21
Righteousness was not given to you because of what you did, it
was the death of Jesus that gave you the right to acquire it.
Therefore, faith means you are righteous regardless of what you
have done. It is easy to say we are righteous when we have not
done anything wrong but when we do wrong, it takes faith to say
that we are the Righteousness of God regardless of the wrong
done.

Restore your Consciousness of Righteousness

Having your consciousness of righteousness intact at all times is

very important because the devil is always looking for that
season where you are off guard and have let down your
breastplate so he can strike. You therefore have to ensure that
guilt does not remain in your heart.

My little children, these things write I unto you,

that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an
advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous: And he is the propitiation for our
sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins
of the whole world.

1John 2:1-2

19
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Every time you live with the consciousness of your sins, errors
and mistakes, because of your
refusal to forgive yourself even
after asking for God’s
forgiveness, you put aside the
armour of your righteousness.
That may be why the devil
keeps stealing all God has
given to you, defeating you and
weakening your faith.

As a principle, I advise that you

do not go to bed without having your consciousness of
righteousness intact, because the devil works more in the night
time and may find occasion to strike you when your breastplate
is compromised.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of

the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Thessalonians 5:2

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill,

and to destroy: I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more
abundantly.
John 10:10

20
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The thief comes at night, and the Bible says the devil is the thief.
The devil takes advantage of the night to carry out many evil
machinations because it is the most sensitive time in the realms
of the spirit.

The night is mostly when a man unpacks his armour, undresses

and goes to sleep, yet the enemy does not sleep. Though you
undress physically in the night, it is very important that you put
on the whole armour of God before you sleep to forestall any
attack of the enemy. This is why we are told not to allow the sun
go down on our wrath. We are to address the issue before going
to bed.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down

upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.

Ephesians 4:26-27

If there is anything to confess and address, do so before you retire

to bed using 1John 1:9.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to

forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.

1John 1:9

You have to tell the devil, ‘You cannot accuse me anymore, I have
fulfilled what is written in 1John1:9. I have confessed my sin and

21
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

God has cleansed me. I may not feel so, but by faith, I am cleansed
and there is no accusation against me in the Name of Jesus’. Glory
to God!

Finally, always remember that the armour of righteousness is

activated by your knowledge and consciousness of
righteousness. The devil is always lurking to see when you would
let your armour down so he may strike, but operating by faith
and love will keep you fully guarded against the onslaught of the
enemy through the breastplate of righteousness.

22
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 3

THE BELT OF TRUTH

I
n the previous chapter, we discussed about the first piece of
your armour, which is the breastplate of righteousness.
However, remember that the focus is on putting on the
whole armour, therefore, it is important that we understand
all the pieces of the armour and to ensure that none is left behind
when we dress up.

That is why we will now consider the next armour in this

chapter, which is the belt of truth.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about

with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;
Ephesians 6:14

Apostle Paul speaks about having our loins girt about with truth.
This is similar to the way we put on a belt today, round about our
loins to give strength and stability. But first, what is truth, and
why do we have to girt our loins about with it?

23
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

What is Truth?

There is a whole lot of difference between what is fact, what is

good and what is true. Fact is situational, good is conditional, but
truth is absolute.

Fact may be what looks to

be the situation, good may
be what is considered
acceptable, but truth is
absolute. Situations may
change, what is considered
good may be subject to
review, but truth never
changes. For instance,
Jesus is King of Kings. This
is truth and does not change no matter the situation.

So what is truth? Jesus already told us this in the scripture below.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is

truth.

John 17:17

Did you see that? The word of God is the truth.

Apostle Paul further shows us that truth is an armour that you

must put on to be able to withstand the attacks of the devil.

24
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about

with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness;
Ephesians 6:14

Quenching Satan’s Lies with Truth

One of the greatest weapons the devil uses against the believer is
lies. Speaking of his prowess, the Bible calls him the father of lies.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of

your father ye will do. He was a murderer from
the beginning, and abode not in the truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he
speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is
a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:44

When the devil comes with his lies, you need to know the truth
so you can stop him in his tracks. For instance, the devil may
come to tell you that no one loves you, or that God will not
forgive you. You must be able to know his strategy and be
prepared to resist him with the truth, which is the Word of God.

When we listen to what the popular opinion says, it is because

we do not know the truth. When we know the truth, we are not
swayed by popular opinion or what the devil says.

25
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The truth makes us free; free from Satan’s accusations and

attacks.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall

make you free.

John 8:32

For example, the devil may even accuse you of not praying, and
because you feel guilty, you quickly go to pray. However, that
prayer born out of guilt is not acceptable to God. In fact, it is a
sin because is not of faith.

For whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Romans 14:23b

Prayer is a good thing, but

when you are praying in
response to Satan’s accusation,
it will not be acceptable to God.

The Strategy of Deception

Remember that the warfare we

are involved in is a spiritual
one, so you will not see the enemy physically. Instead, he will
fight you in your mind by bringing lies to you. The Bible says he
is the father of lies; he speaks only lies, and lies can never be
known except you have the light of the truth. It is the light of the

26
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

truth that helps you to know when to stop the devil and cast him
out.

This is why you need to listen to the word of God every day,
consistently feeding your spirit and putting the truth in your
heart, arming yourself for war. You do not need to wait for the
devil to hit you before you start considering how to arm yourself.
When you are armed with the truth, you will know what to do
when the enemy comes around with his lies.

Do not just be a church goer, instead arm yourself with the truth
by meditating on the Word of God and letting the Word dwell in
your heart. Then, no one can deceive you; not even a pastor or
the voice of the people on social media can confuse you because
you know the truth.

Attaining Truth

Having your loins girt about with truth is not a one-time activity.
Jesus alluded to this when He spoke to the Jews who believed in
Him.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on

him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32

27
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The word ‘continue’ as used above is the word ‘Meno’ and it

means to stay in one place. The reason a lot of believers are
unable to come to the knowledge of the truth is because they
keep jumping from one church to the other. When you operate
like this, you cannot know the truth of God’s word.

Every Church teaches the Word in line with the season they are
in. So when you keep touring churches, you are unable to learn
the whole body of truth. This is why the Bible says we should be
planted.

Those that be planted in the house of the LORD

shall flourish in the courts of our God.

Psalm 92:13

You need to identify where you want to stay and stay there.

Personally, I do not like to coerce people to always visit my

church because I am aware that they cannot grow in the truth
that way, by coming and going.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on

him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed;

John 8:31

Jesus said to the Jews who believed on Him, ‘…if you continue in
my word...’ and that is the first step in knowing the truth. You
cannot know the truth about a person over night when you have

28
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

not continued in friendship with him. In fact, to call a person

you have only seen once or twice a friend, is putting yourself at
risk of a disappointment, because you really do not know such a
person.

The Word of God to your

local church comes in a
series or order, to make the
church grow up in the
truth. Thus, you must
always be in touch,
consistently following the
teachings of the man of God
that God has given to you. A smart person who misses a church
service for a genuine reason will quickly order for the tape of
that session because he wants to abide in the Word.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall

make you free.
John 8:32

The word ‘know’ in the verse of scripture above is ‘ginosko’,

meaning complete information. When you continue in a
ministry, you will have complete information of the truth.

Joining a church makes you one with the church. It means you
partake and participate with them. You fast when they fast, erect
an altar when they erect altars, break altars when they break

29
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

them, stand when they stand, fight when they fight, sow when
they sow, watch when they watch and pray when they pray. At
this rate, you are a people going somewhere together, and
consistently, God releases words in every season to keep you on
the journey.

Thus, the lack of consistency becomes the root of the problem of

those believers who move from place to place. When the
consistent ones are reaping the harvest of consistency having
traded the ministry’s principles consistently, the inconsistent
ones begin to see their lack of harvest as a product of the
ineffectiveness of the church, thereby playing down on God’s
credibility as well.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on

him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32

Jesus said ‘if you continue (Meno) in my word, then you will
know (Ginosko), and when you know, you will be made free
(eleutheroō) which means to be free from carnal calamities or to
be exempted from carnal situations.

A person who uses the daily devotional of one church, attends

midweek service in another church, joins the Sunday service of
yet another church, and yet listens to the audio messages of yet

30
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

another assembly cannot Ginosko, that is, he cannot be grounded

in the truth.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on

him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye my
disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32

Becoming a Disciple

Take note that in John 8:31, Jesus was addressing those who had
believed on Him. In other words, they were not unbelievers. Yet
he was telling them to continue in His Word.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed

on him, if ye continue in my word, then are ye
my disciples indeed;
John 8:31

It is only when you

continue in the Word that
you come to know the
truth because the truth is a
higher word that is only
accessed by a complete
knowledge of the word.

31
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

By asking the people to continue in His Word, Jesus was in effect

asking them to follow Him step by step or to become His disciple.

If ye continue in my word, then are ye my

disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth,
and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32

Being a ‘Believer’ and being a ‘Disciple’ are two different things

and that is why Jesus was addressing those who believe in Him
to continue into becoming disciples. He was pointing to what it
means to move up from merely being believers into being
disciples, which is continuing in the Word.

The essence of BELIEVING is to enable you become a DISCIPLE,

and discipleship enables you to know the truth, which then
makes you free.

The Benefits of Being a Disciple

One of the benefits of being a disciple is that you can grow to

become like your Master. In other words, you can attain to His
mastery or level of knowledge.

The disciple is not above his master: but every

one that is perfect shall be as his master.
Luke 6:40

32
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

As a disciple, you should be able to operate in the gifts of your

leader. The unction on your leader is on him so it can come on
you as well. What he has and knows, you should also have and
know. If he can heal the sick, you should be able to heal the sick,
if he can cast out devils, you should be able to cast out devils also,
and so on and so forth.

When you follow your

pastor closely and know
what he knows, what comes
against him and bounces off
would also bounce off you.
The devil will have no
power over you because you
follow closely one who also
operates with the belt of truth.

Your pastor cannot believe and operate the principle of tithing

and you take a different position. You would be out of place and
therefore susceptible to the attack of the enemy. Whether you are
standing beside your pastor or not, you may fall while he remains
standing.

The revelation God has given to your pastor or leader is in line

with the battles he is ordained to fight. So as a disciple, you must
be equipped with as much revelation as he has. You are not
entitled to choose the revelation to live by.

33
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

You cannot say ‘oh… I believe in Tithing but not in offerings, I

believe in Prayer, but not in corporate worship’. Saying such
things is a proof that you have not girded your loins with the belt
of truth.

Some persons complain about their pastors getting richer when

in truth, they do not believe and practice the principles of
financial prosperity that he practices. Follow your pastor to
know, adopt and practice specific biblical principles. That is
discipleship, which enable you to know the truth and be free.

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of

Christ.
1Corinthians 11:1

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall

make you free.
John 8:32

This is why you should constantly strive to update yourself in the

truth by studying the scriptures, getting teaching tapes, books
and other materials of your pastor to keep yourself updated with
current revelations per time. That is how to follow and obtain the
truth.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and

instruction, and understanding.

Proverbs 23:23

34
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The Truth Makes You Free

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall

make you free.
John 8:32

Take note that the scripture says that the Truth MAKES us free.

There is a difference between being ‘SET FREE’ and being ‘MADE

FREE’. While the former is an ACTION, the latter is a STATE.

The truth does just set you free as a one-time action, it puts you
in a state where you can never be bound another time.

Truth is what makes us stand firm so we are not tossed about by

every wind of doctrine. The truth of God’s Word makes us free
by making us live above every lie of the devil. It keeps us in a
state of freedom.

Satan can only bind you

in sickness and affliction
when you do not know
the truth, so angels have
to come with a first aid
box to set you free but
when you are
established in the truth of your divine health, you are MADE
FREE, no longer to be held bound.

35
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Again, when a man is set free, he remains in that same level -

right where he was oppressed by the devil. As long as he remains
in that level, the devil can retrace him and bind him another
time. But when a man is made free by revelation, he is released
from this level and launched into a higher level where the devil
can no longer gain access.

Every level of truth releases you from a lower level of life. So,
having the belt of truth means you are constantly moving up the
ladder in your knowledge of truth.

At one time, I found myself always tired whenever I wanted to

pray. I kept struggling and struggling in between prayer and my
sleep until suddenly the Spirit of God said to me, ‘PRAYER IS NOT
A FEELING, IT IS A CHOICE’. That truth sparked up a new fire in
my heart for prayer. From that time on, the devil no longer cheats
me out of prayer life with his lies through my feelings. I pray
because I choose to pray. I am MADE FREE by the knowledge of
the truth, never to be held bound. Halleluyah!

THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 4

THE HELMET OF SALVATION

A
nother important armour to take unto yourself in
standing against the onslaught of the enemy is the
helmet of salvation.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword

of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Ephesians 6:17

Observe that this armour is not called the breastplate of salvation

or the Shield of Salvation. Rather, it is a helmet; the Helmet of
Salvation. This is because your knowledge of Salvation protects
your head in the realm of the spirit, just like a helmet would do
in the physical.

Your head is where your power is. A soldier may lose an arm or
limb and still be able to live. But if his head is gone, his life is
certainly lost.

What covers your life is the knowledge of your salvation. If you

do not have the revelation about your salvation, the devil may

37
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

behead you in the realms of the spirit. If you lose the knowledge
or revelation of your salvation, the devil will attack you when
you least expect - in the place where you are vulnerable.

The knowledge of salvation is very important to every believer.

It is the assurance of Salvation that covers your head in the
realms of the spirit against every flying arrows of the enemy.

What You Should Know About Your Salvation

The first thing you must understand is that your salvation is a

gift from God. You were saved by grace.

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish,

disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and
pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and
hating one another. But after that the kindness
and love of God our Saviour toward man
appeared, Not by works of righteousness which
we have done, but according to his mercy he
saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and
renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on
us abundantly through Jesus Christ our
Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we
should be made heirs according to the hope of
eternal life.

Titus 3:3-7

38
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Like the scripture above shows us, we were saved by the kindness
and love of God, not by our own efforts or good works. We were
justified by grace. It is a free gift from God.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and

that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not
of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9

If someone claims to have given

you a birthday gift and you still
have to pay for it to claim it,
then it is no longer a gift. Your
salvation is a gift from God.
You were neither saved by your
power nor by your good deeds.
Jesus Christ died and shed his
blood for the remission of your
sins.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his

only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
John 3:16

Again, you could not also have been saved just because Jesus
died. Only those who believe in their heart that Christ died for

39
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

their sins, and confess His Lordship with their mouth can be
saved.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the

Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation.

Romans 10:9-10

Hence, going to church does not guarantee salvation. To be

saved, you have to believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the
Son of God, that he was born of a virgin, he died for your sins,
was buried and also rose again. Not only should you believe these
truths, but you must also confess them with your mouth. It is
then that your faith can activate your salvation.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the

Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation.

Romans 10:9-10

Take note that believing is not enough, it is the confession that

releases the salvation, as believing without confession is

40
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

incomplete. In other words, though salvation was purchased by

the blood of Jesus on the cross, that salvation can only be
activated by faith which you release by confessing His Lordship
and your belief in the fact that he died and rose again.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and

that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Ephesians 2:8a

Sometimes, the devil comes around speaking lies into our hearts
to make us doubt our salvation. He says things like, ‘How can you
say you are saved despite all the evil and wicked things you did
in the past?’ or ‘Do you really think God has forgiven you just
because you said a prayer of salvation?’ At such times, only those
who have a full knowledge of their salvation can quash such
thoughts and put the devil under.

Is Salvation Permanent?

When a man gives His life to Christ by faith as we have described

above, the Bible shows us that such a man is saved from eternal
damnation. He receives the eternal life of God and becomes a son
of God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his

only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting
life. He that believeth on him is not condemned:

41
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

but he that believeth not is condemned already,

because he hath not believed in the name of the
only begotten Son of God.
John 3:16,18

But as many as received him, to them gave he

power to become the sons of God, even to them
that believe on his name:
John 1:12

Many have asked, does this mean that once we are saved, we can
no longer lose our salvation? Can we say; once saved, always
saved?

In reality, the answer to

this question is
definitely a ‘Yes’, but in
practice, it is a ‘No’.
Though salvation is an
eternal transaction, if a
believer deliberately
goes ahead to live and
continue in sin, then he
can no longer claim
‘once saved, always
saved’. The destination for such a person is hell.

42
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

When a believer deliberately lives in sin, do whatever he likes,

go wherever he chooses to go etc, then he is saying that Jesus is
no longer the LORD of his life, and by such action has made
declarations that cancels his previous confession.

When you confess Jesus as Lord, you become saved. If you

reverse that, you are damned. Remember, anyone who is not
born again is damned and is headed for hell.

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but

he that believeth not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the
only begotten Son of God.
John 3:18

Take note however that a mere mistake cannot take away your
salvation just as good works did not save you in the first place.
You got saved by believing in your heart and confessing with
your mouth. In the same way, it is your confession or declaration
that damns you - Confessing the rejection of the Lordship of Jesus
Christ.

One may not have publicly denounced Christ, but once he begins
to live in sin against the nudging of the Holy Spirit, he is
beginning to confess his new allegiance. If you live it, you are
saying it. When you have another lord in your life apart from
Christ and begin to do the bidding of the devil, then you are no
longer saved, and you may be headed to hell.

43
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

However, this process that I have described is not as easy as it

sounds, because it takes the willful rejection of the Holy Spirit to
actually lose one’s salvation.

As long as you still have the Holy Spirit in your heart nudging
you, making you know that God is not pleased with you, you are
still saved. But when a man has gotten to the point where he does
wrong without a nudging, prompting or a feeling of remorse,
such one is no longer saved irrespective of who he is or his title
in church.

Remember that you may even lead others to say the Lord’s prayer
while you are very lost yourself.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,

shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he
that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord,
Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and
in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy
name done many wonderful works? And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matthew 7:21-23

The proof of salvation is the voice of the Spirit in your heart.

When you have numbed that voice, then you can no longer claim
to still be saved.

44
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit,

that we are the children of God.
Romans 8:16

The Seal of Salvation

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is the seal of our salvation.

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the

word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in
whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed
with that holy Spirit of promise.
Ephesians1:13

Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he

is none of his.
Romans 8:9

When you have believed and confessed with your mouth, God
seals you with the Holy Spirit. As such, anyone that has not the
Spirit of Christ does not belong to Christ. Such can therefore not
claim to be saved.

God’s Spirit in us convicts our hearts when we sin or go against

God’s will. That results in feelings of unease. Instead of trying to
cover up or suppress that feeling, we ought to yield to the Spirit
by acknowledging the wrong, confessing it and asking for
forgiveness as we see in 1John 1:9

45
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to

forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
1John1:19

When we do this, the devil no longer has a cause to accuse us.

His arrows of accusation no longer have power over us, because
our sin has been dealt with and our righteousness with God
remains intact. (You can read more about this in my book, The
Dress Code for Entering into the Courts of Heaven).

Quenching the Spirit

Some believers have however seared their hearts. When the Holy
Spirit convicts them, they have mastered the art of covering His
voice with reasonings about how they think they are right in
their own eyes. This act quenches the Holy Spirit and will expose
you to the attack of the devil.

Quench not the Spirit.

1Thessalonians 5:19

The convincing voice of the Holy Spirit in you is a sign that God
still loves you and wants you restored so you will not be a prey
to the prowling forces of darkness against whom we stand in
spiritual battle.

46
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but

against principalities, against powers, against
the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore
take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye
may be able to withstand in the evil day, and
having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:12-13

The Battlefield of the Mind

As we have discussed, the helmet of salvation is first your
understanding of salvation. However, beyond just knowing that
you are saved so that the devil does not deceive you concerning
your salvation, there is
another aspect to the
helmet of salvation, which
is the protection of your
mind.

You must have heard the

statement that a battle is
either won or lost in the mind. That is true. Satan cannot defeat
you in your life in any way until he first defeats you in your
mind.

47
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Once in place by virtue of salvation, its knowledge and

consciousness, the helmet of salvation can be violated by the
enemy who seeks to gain access into the battleground of your
mind where the battle really happens.

Keep thy heart (mind) with all diligence; for out

of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:23

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:

Proverbs 23:7

Your thinking can open the door for the enemy to enter into your
mind. The devil may not possess your spirit or your body, but
when he breaches your mind, you may have struggles with
obsessive thoughts or lusts.

The dictionary defines lust as a compulsive, obsessive, and

overmastering desire or craving for something. It may be a lust
for money, power, success, fame etc. However, sexual lust
remains one of the biggest enemy of your mind as we see in the
scripture below.

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and

pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war
against the soul (mind);
1 Peter 2:11

48
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Did you see that? Lusts war against the mind. This is why today;
the devil is using all
manner of sexual sins to
attack the mind. In this
day of pornography,
indecent dressing and
exposure, believers are
faced with a battle that
they must win.

Violating the Perimeter of Your Helmet (Mind Virus)

When lust enters your mind, it deactivates the helmet of
salvation. The minute the devil can get you to think a lustful
thought, he has the right to enter. It is like a trade: once you take
Satan’s thoughts, you trade the gate control or the password to
your mind.

And he said, That which cometh out of the man,

that defileth the man. For from within, out of the
heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries,
fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness,
wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye,
blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil
things come from within, and defile the man.

Mark 7:20-23

49
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The word ‘defile’ in the scripture above refers to breaching the

security of your mind. Just like in a personal computer, when
you browse the internet or open an email, a virus may be lurking.
If you should click whatever link or attachment bears the virus,
your system becomes infected with that virus. Immediately, the
virus spreads, multiplies and may even give an outsider control
of your system.

In the same way, when you allow evil thoughts, foolishness,

deceits, pride, covetousness, adultery, fornication, etc. into your
mind, like a virus they will spread, multiply and give the devil
access into your life.

We face today the greatest assault ever as Satan is seeking access

to your mind. Many struggle in silence with thoughts of hatred,
unforgiveness, wickedness, fornication, adultery etc. It is
important to note that they do not want to think these thoughts,
but like Peter said, these thoughts war against the mind until they
force compliance in the mind of the person and they gain control
of that person’s actions.

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and

pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war
against the soul (mind);
1Peter 2:11

50
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Taking Thoughts from the Devil

Just like the analogy of the computer virus that we discussed
earlier on, Satan will always direct thoughts of lust, worry,
doubt, rejection etc. towards your mind to see if you would
welcome or entertain them. The moment you take those
thoughts, you have traded the control of your mind with him,
and a breach is made in our helmet of salvation.

This is why Jesus admonished us over and over again to take no

thought of worry for the things of this life.

But when they deliver you up, take no thought

how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given
you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

Matthew 10:19

And He said unto his disciples, Therefore I say

unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye
shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put
on.

Luke 12:22

Did you see that? Jesus says we should not take any such
thoughts because we have the power to do so. When Satan sends
a thought, we can decide whether or not to take it.

51
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

There are many people smoking, stealing, lying etc. who do not
want to do these things, but their mind has been possessed by the
enemy. Not only that, the enemy also has the intention of
possessing their spirits
so that they may lose
their salvation at the
end, because it is
impossible to continue
to live in those sins and
not end up in hell. This
is why you must have
your mind protected
and under control. You can achieve this through the Word.

Reinforcing the Perimeter of Your Mind

The Word of God is not merely an information book. Every time
you study the word, the word bears an anointing that protects
your mind. The anointing of the word taken into your mind acts
to reinforce the force field of your mind, keeping your mind
impregnable to the forces of the enemy.

This is why you must begin your day meditating on the word, not
so that you can feel good or get a rhema to preach. It is for the
sake of reinforcing the security of your mind so that when you
step out that day, you may look at a person indecently dressed
and yet feel nothing. Have you ever experienced this? Have you

52
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

ever asked yourself why sometimes you see a thing and feel
nothing, and at other times you see the same thing and feel lust
in your mind? The answer is simple. When your mind is
breached, or the anointing of the word is missing from your
mind, you would be an easy prey for the enemy.

Virus Bearers

There are many pictures, materials, objects, magazines, videos

that you find today that carry the spirit of lust, and many engage
with these materials unawares. There are also people who have
been possessed with this spirit of lust. Just a look, contact or a
touch exposes your mind to these attacks. If your mind is not
sealed with the anointing of the Word, it will be attacked. Your
dream life will be attacked and you would suddenly find yourself
struggling with emotions that you do not want, and eventually
doing what you never thought you would do.

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha

into ashes condemned them with an overthrow,
making them an ensample unto those that after
should live ungodly; And delivered just Lot,
vexed with the filthy conversation (lifestyle) of
the wicked:

2Peter 2:6-7

The word vex is the Greek word ‘kataponeho’ which means to

wear by toil. It also means to harass and oppress. Lot’s mind was

53
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

harassed, oppressed or worn

out while living in Sodom and
Gomorrah, meaning that the
perimeter of his mind was being
attacked with toil and effort to
wear out its fence so that they
could enter. He was so vexed to
the point that he even conceded
to give his daughters to the
homosexuals.

And they called unto Lot, and said unto him,

Where are the men which came in to thee this
night? bring them out unto us, that we may know
them. And Lot went out at the door unto them,
and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you,
brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have
two daughters which have not known man; let
me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do
ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these
men do nothing; for therefore came they under
the shadow of my roof.

Genesis 19:5-8

Just like in Lot’s situation, even today, billboards, front pages of

magazines, adverts etc. pressure our minds and create unhealthy
appetite just for one purpose: to penetrate our mind so that Satan

54
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

may gain control of our bodies. You cannot fight this by yourself.
A resolution or decision cannot fight this battle. Your willpower
is no match for this kind of assault. It will only take the anointing
of the Word to protect your mind daily as you step out and
interact with people.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his

burden shall be taken away from off thy
shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the
yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Isaiah 10:27

This is why every day, you must be determined based on this

understanding to maintain the integrity of your mind because
that is where every battle is either won or lost. Also, that is what
will determine where you will spend eternity. Your helmet
should never be taken off. You must never be off guard. Watch
out for distractions and for arrows that will target your mind:
Fear, worries, lust etc.

Read the Word everyday with this consciousness and then, if by

chance you find your mind being hacked, go into fasting and
prayer until you regain the sanity of your mind, and your helmet
is fully restored.

55
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 5

THE SHIN AND SHOE OF THE GOSPEL

I n this chapter, I want us to consider the next piece of

armour that God has provided for every believer so that we
can stand against the wiles and attacks of the devil – the
shin and shoe of the Gospel.

“…And your feet shod with the preparation of

the gospel of peace;
Ephesians 6:15

Anything that affects your foot will affect your motion. Your shin
cover and your shoes work together to protect your foot, which
is not any less important than other parts of your body. If your
righteousness, belt of truth and helmet of salvation are in place
but your feet is exposed, you may still be hit and brought down
by the arrows of the wicked one.

The Gospel protects your feet

56
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

In the realms of the Spirit, the Gospel protects your feet. The
preaching of the Gospel and your readiness or preparedness to
preach the Gospel protects your feet in the spiritual realm.

“…And your feet shod with the preparation of

the gospel of peace;
Ephesians 6:15

The preparation of the Gospel in the heart and in the mouth of a

believer is an armour. When you do not have the consciousness
of the Gospel, you are like a soldier going to battle without his or
her shoes

The Dangers of Not Having Your Feet Shod

In the realms of the spirit, a person who is not preaching the

Word is barefooted. This is a
dangerous thing to do.

First, dirt can cling to your feet

when you are not wearing
your shoes.

Secondly, you may get injured

when you walk without your
shoe on your feet.

And thirdly, you can get weary

because trying to walk without your shoe will get you tired.

57
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Shoes give comfort so that even when the ground surface is

rough and undulating, you are able to have an absorber under
your feet.

As a child of God, you must be prepared to share the Gospel of

Christ as you step out each day. When last did you preach the
Gospel in your office, in the bus, on your street, or in your
neigbourhood? When last did you tell someone about Jesus? If
you are not doing this often, you are walking barefoot in the
realms of the Spirit. You may be wearing a colourful and
expensive shoe in the physical realm, but in the spirit you are
barefooted and susceptible to Satan’s attacks.

Sometimes, some believers dream

and see themselves without
shoes. Such a dream is reminding
you of your place in the gospel. If
you find yourself without shoes,
God is telling you that you are not
preaching the Word.

This is not about being an

Evangelist. It is an armour in the
spirit. Remember that if you are
not preaching the Word, you are walking barefoot and anything
the devil throws at your feet will hurt you. The preaching of the
Word is for your spiritual protection.

58
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The Gospel beautifies your feet

What beautifies your feet in the realms of the spirit is the Gospel
and this is good tiding.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet

of him that bringeth good tidings, that
publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of
good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto
Zion, Thy God reigneth!
Isaiah 52:7

Another vital part of ensuring your feet is shod with the

preparation of the Gospel is being prepared to preach the Gospel.
This is a conscious effort of being ready to answer anyone who
may have a question about your faith and how to be saved.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be

ready always to give an answer to every man
that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in
you with meekness and fear:
1Peter 3:15
Everywhere you go, you are likely to find people who are talking
against the things God out of ignorance, you must be ready with
the truth of the Gospel in your mouth because the Gospel is God’s
power to save.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for

it is the power of God unto salvation to every

59
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to

the Greek.
Romans 1:16

People may not ask you directly about how to be saved, but with
every opportunity you have to present the Gospel as God’s power
to save, you must be ready to give an answer.

The Place of Boldness

There is also the place of boldness in having your feet shod with
the Gospel. Paul addresses this in Romans chapter 1 verse 16.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:

for it is the power of God unto salvation to
everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and
also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16

There is nothing to be ashamed of when you preach the Gospel.

The Bible says it is the power of God unto salvation. We therefore
ought to preach the Gospel boldly and in all conviction whenever
we have such opportunity, knowing that by it we call men to
salvation and protect our own feet in the realms of the spirit.

And your feet shod with the preparation of the

gospel of peace;
Ephesians 6:15

60
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

When you do not preach

the Gospel, not only will
you be failing to bring men
to salvation, you would
inadvertently expose
yourself to the attack of the
enemy.

When you view the act of

preaching the Gospel this
way, you will no longer be
careless with the opportunities that God gives to you to witness.

Protecting Your Heels

Satan will have the power to bruise your heels if you do not
preach the Gospel.

And I will put enmity between thee and the

woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it
shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his
heel.
Genesis 3:15

The scriptures cannot be broken. Every time we preach the

Gospel, we bruise the head of the devil with our protected feet.

61
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Therefore, when we fail to shod our feet and preach the Gospel,
we indirectly give him opportunity to bruise our heels.

This is why we must always be in readiness to preach the Gospel,

knowing the spiritual implications of our actions. At all times,
and with every opportunity, we must have our feet shod with the
preparation of the Gospel of peace so we can bruise the head of
the enemy.

Seven Important Facts about the Gospel

As you prepare yourself to preach the Gospel, there are seven

important facts you must keep in mind. I have listed them below
for reference purposes.

1. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory

of God;
Romans 3: 23
.

2. The wages of sin is death. Death is the separation from God,

which means separation from life.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God

is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6: 23

3. God loves us and gave His son born of a virgin for us.

62
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

For God so loved the world, that he gave his

only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3: 16

We have been deceived all our lives into thinking that God just
forgives, this is not true. Everything is bought and sold in the
realms of the spirit.

Nothing is really
free in the spiritual
realm, just as in the
physical.
Transactions go on
in the trading
floors of heaven.
That is why God
did not just forgive
our sins, He paid
for it because it
had to be bought. If Jesus did not die, we could not have been
saved. Anything that comes to you has been paid for by someone.

The ignorance of this truth is the reason why some persons still
question the need for tithing and sowing in church because they
do not understand what trading is. (You can learn more about
the mystery of trading floors in my book, Redeeming Your
Lineage from the Courts of Heaven)

63
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall

bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God
with us.
Matthew 1:23-25

Consider the transaction of salvation: after having shown us His

love by sending His Son to die for us, we still cannot be saved
until we acknowledge and receive that love by believing in our
heart and confessing with our mouth. That is how to complete
the transaction that Christ initiated on the cross.

4. Whosoever believes in Jesus is saved from the wrath to

come

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting

life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not
see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
John 3:36

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of

man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of
the Gentile;
Romans 2:9
There is such a thing as the wrath of God upon those who have
not received the salvation of Jesus Christ. It takes believing in
Jesus Christ to have that wrath taken away.

64
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The “believing” that the scriptures refers to is not just a mere

mental assertion, because the Bible says even the devil believes
and trembles.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou

doest well: the devils also believe, and
tremble.
James 2:19
Did you see that? Even the devil believes that God is. That means
if you believe passionately that Christ died for your sins, you have
not done anything better than the devil.

Romans 10:9 tells us how to believe.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the

Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved.
Romans10:9

You cannot be admitted into the Kingdom of God just by going

to church. It is imperative that you accept Jesus formally into
your life. This is when you can be saved from the wrath of God.

65
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

5. Salvation makes you a part of the body of Christ which

is the church, where we grow the fellowship, faith and
service.

Some in the Church today

believe that salvation is in
the heart, and one can be
saved and remain in his
house without being a part
of any local church. This is a
lie from the pit of hell. The
Bible shows us that God’s
plan is that we get planted in
a church for fellowship and
service.

For as the body is one, and hath many members,

and all the members of that one body, being
many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one
Spirit are we all baptized into one body,
whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be
bond or free; and have been all made to drink
into one Spirit.
I Corinthians 12:12-13

66
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Then they that gladly received his word were

baptized: and the same day there were added
unto them about three thousand souls. And they
continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine
and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and
in prayers.
Act 2:41-42

And let us consider one another to provoke unto

love and to good works: Not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as the manner
of some is; but exhorting one another: and so
much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:24-25

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves

together, as the manner of some is; but
exhorting one another: and so much the more,
as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:25

We assemble together to exhort one another and that is what the

church does through its different meetings.

6. Jesus will return again and judge us for reward, and then
together we will judge the world.

67
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

This is another truth you must arm yourself with when you
preach the Gospel. The Bible shows us that Christ Jesus will
return to the earth.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven

with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God: and the dead in
Christ shall rise first:
I Thessalonians 4:16

During the rapture, the church will be caught up to heaven and

those that rejected Christ will remain.

I tell you, in that night there shall be two men

in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the
other shall be left. Two women shall be
grinding together; the one shall be taken, and
the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the
one shall be taken, and the other left.

Luke 17:34-36

Then, we will be judged for reward and our reward we will be

based on our works.

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is

with me, to give every man according as his work
shall be

Revelations 22:12

68
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

After our judgements and rewards based on our works, we will

return with Christ to the earth. This is the second coming.

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam,

prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord
cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

Jude 1:14

Then with Christ, we will judge the earth.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the

world? and if the world shall be judged by you,
are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

1Corinthians 6:2

(You can get my book ‘The Coronavirus Effect” to know more

about the rapture and the timeline of events leading into it)

7. There shall be a new Earth devoid of sin, tears, death and

Satan.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for

the first heaven and the first earth were passed
away; and there was no more sea.
Revelation 21:1

69
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Death was not part of God’s original design and so it will not
exist in the new earth. The earth’s present location is for the earth
to operate in this physical system and for sin to be trapped in
time. Thus in this new heaven and earth, there will be no death,
pain or tears.

THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 6

THE SHIELD OF FAITH

F
aith handles the fiery darts of the enemy. This is why the
Bible tells us to take the shield of faith unto ourselves.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith

ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of
the wicked.
Ephesians 6:16

The devil has a special weapon called doubt, which works

together with fear. Doubt and fear working together make up
what the Bible refers to as the FIERY-DART of the devil.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith

ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of
the wicked.
Ephesians 6:16

For instance, the devil may tell you that you will die. If you allow
this thought to sink, it spreads so fast that you suddenly begin to
doubt the protection of God. This begins to gain ground in your
heart so much that if something does not kill you, the fear would.

71
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

What a strategy! Yet, we are not defenseless against this strategy

of the devil.

Dealing with the Devil’s Fiery Darts

As a believer, your faith must be up at all times to be able to shield

you from the fiery darts of the devil, which can only be dealt with
by the shield of faith.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith

ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of
the wicked.
Ephesians 6:16

This is why you cannot allow your faith to fluctuate. Instead, you
should ensure that your faith stays up by the Word; constantly
meditating on God’s promises to you, and continually declaring
and prophesying them. This is what feeds your faith.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing

by the word of God.
Romans 10:17

As you build your faith, it is also important to know how to starve

your doubts. This has to do with cutting ties with everyone and
everything that brings thoughts of doubt and fear into your
heart, making you unable to act on the Word of God.

72
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Communing with a friend, neighbor or acquaintance who

constantly sows negative thoughts in your heart is a set up that
can cost you the outcome of your prophetic declarations. You
must avoid all such communications. Rather, stay around people
who build your faith by saying things consistent with what you
have heard and believed from the Word of God.

Take a moment and

ask yourself; who or
what is killing your
faith? You were fired
up by messages from
church but who is
killing your faith to
the extent that just
one hour after
service, you have
become drowned in
doubt and fear? It is time to put such communications to death.
Turn them off!

Maintaining Strong Faith

I want us to consider Deuteronomy chapter 6 from verse 6 to

learn about how to maintain strong faith and stand shielded
from the fiery darts of the devil.

73
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

“And these words, which I command thee this

day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt
teach them diligently unto thy children, and
shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine
house, and when thou walkest by the way, and
when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine
hand, and they shall be as frontlets between
thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the
posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Let us begin to analyze the above scripture:

1. Teach the Word

“...thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy

children”
Deuteronomy 6:7a
Teaching the Word is one important way to strengthen
and maintain your faith. Gather your neighbors, family
or even look yourself in the mirror and teach the Word.
Do not keep the revelation of the Word alone in your
heart, because the more you teach it, the more you know
it. Teaching is a systematic way of communicating
information, so God is saying communicate the Word so

74
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

it becomes stored in your heart as a primary source of

faith.

2. Talk the Word

…and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in

thine house, and when thou walkest by the way,
and when thou liest down, and when thou
risest up
Deuteronomy 6:7b

To many, their only interaction with the Word is when

they hear the Word in church, but this should not be the
case. Whether you are sitting, walking, or lying down,
learn to confess the Word at all times. According to the
scripture; talk about the Word while walking, lying on
your bed and as you wake up. You can talk about the
Word even in the kitchen or at the office. This is one way
to maintain a strong faith and be shielded from the
attacks of the devil.

3. Write the Word

“...thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine

hand, and they shall be as frontlets between
thine eyes”
Deuteronomy 6:8

75
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

The Jews had to place the word on their foreheads for all
who see. They wore it as a wrist band so much so that
they could always behold the word every time they look
down on their hands. You too can learn to write down
the Word of God where you may constantly see it and
meditate on it.

4. Paste the written Word

“…thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy

house, and on thy gates”
Deuteronomy 6:9

By pasting the Word of God or scriptures on the walls

and corners of your house, you make it possible for you
to stumble on the word every time. As a personal
practice, I paste God’s promises to me per time on my
mountain. Beholding these promises every day shuts the
lying mouth of the devil in my mind. The mistake many
make on the other hand is in having materials that do
not edify their spirits on their walls. That in turn destroys
them slowly because what you see continuously, you
become.

Put the word everywhere around you, even on your

76
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

social media profile/status. Do not let the posts of other

people distort your word culture.

It is ok to have your house number on your gate but it is

profitable to have the word of God there instead. Imagine
driving into your gate, each day and you see; “ I am the
head and not the tail.”

If you do not put the word around you, you will forget it, and
when the enemy strikes, you would be without a shield and
therefore vulnerable to his attacks.

This is why you must do everything possible to protect your faith.

77
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 7

THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

H aving put on the breastplate of righteousness, the belt

of truth, helmet of salvation, the shin and shoe of the
Gospel and the shield of faith, you cannot be
guaranteed maximum protection against the attack of the devil
until you take up the sword of the Spirit.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword

of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Ephesians 6:17

The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Unlike the other
pieces of your armour which act to protect, the sword of the
Spirit helps you to fight back against the onslaught of the enemy.
The Bible tells us that the Word is quick and even sharper than
any two-edged sword.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and

sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,

78
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner

of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

In being able to stand against the enemy successfully, it is

important that we are armed with the Word of God, and also
learn to use this against the devil to obtain victory when we
engage in spiritual battle. These are skills you must acquire and
master.

Jesus Used the Sword of the Spirit Effectively

Let us consider the example of Jesus Christ when the devil came
to tempt him.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If

thou be the Son of God, command that these
stones be made bread. But he answered and
said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of
the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up
into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle
of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the
Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,
He shall give his angels charge concerning
thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up,
lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a

79
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again,

Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again,
the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high
mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of
the world, and the glory of them; And saith
unto him, All these things will I give thee, if
thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith
Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is
written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,
and him only shalt thou serve.
Matthew 4:3-10

When the devil came to tempt Jesus as we see above, Jesus

answered him thrice with the words ‘It is written.’ The three
scriptures Jesus replied with can be found in the book of
Deuteronomy. Let us examine them.

“…that he might make thee know that man

doth not live by bread only, but by every word
that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD
doth man live.
Deuteronomy 8:3

Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye

tempted him in Massah.
Deuteronomy 6:16

80
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve

him, and shalt swear by his name.
Deuteronomy 6:13

The best response towards the attack of the enemy is using the
sword of the Spirit. When the enemy comes against you, it is the
sword you can use to fight back.

However, you must understand the devil knows the Word too.
That is why sometimes, he may even quote scriptures in trying
to deceive you. If you do not know what is written and be fully
grounded in the Word, you may fall for his gimmicks.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a

workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Timothy 2:15

Just like he tried to deceive Christ using scriptures, Satan may

say to you; ‘Is it not written that those who serve and obey God
will live their days in prosperity? Why not siphon this office
funds for your wardrobe project so you may look flashing and
trendy?’ If you do not know the Word thoroughly, you may begin
to fall for his lies and start falling into sin.

Remember, you would have no sword in the realms of the spirit

to tackle the devil if you have no Word in you. The quantity of

81
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

the Word and the quality of the revelation you have in you would
determine the size and sharpness of your sword.

Some believers only have a “knife-sized” sword in the spirit

because of the quantity of
word that they have, yet
they suppose that they
can withstand the devil. It
would take a diligent
practice of studying and
meditating on the Word
of God to get a bigger and
more effective sword in
the spirit realm to
continue to subdue the
devil each time he comes
against you.

Unmasking the Lies of the Devil

One other thing that equipping yourself with the Word of God
will do is to help you discern the truth.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and

sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,

82
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner

of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

There is a distinct difference between the voice of God’s Spirit,

the voice of your spirit, the voice of your mind and the voice of
the devil. They are not the same.

The word of God will help you know the difference between the
voice of your flesh, the voice of the devil and the voice of God’s
Spirit.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a

workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
2Timothy 2:15

It is the Word of God that will help you discern correctly so you
would not be misled. When you are full of the Word, you can no
longer be deceived or swayed by every voice you hear because
you know the voice of God’s Spirit.

Now, let us go on to the next chapter to discuss the final piece of

the whole armour of God. Come with me.

83
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

CHAPTER 8

THE EYES OF PRAYER

B eginning From chapter 2, we have been considering the

whole armour of God which the Bible recommends for
every believer to be able to withstand the attack of the
devil. I want us to read that scripture again.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may

be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high
places. Wherefore take unto you the whole
armour of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all,
to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt
about with truth, and having on the breastplate
of righteousness; And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all,
taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be

84
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying
always with all prayer and supplication in the
Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ephesians 6:11-18

Did you see that? It will take the putting on of the whole armour
to be able to withstand the attacks of the evil one. This suggests
that if even one piece of the armour is lost or laid down, the
believer may become vulnerable to the attack of the enemy. We
are to put on all the armour, not some.

In this chapter therefore, let us consider the final part of the

whole armour which the Bible shows us: the eyes of prayer.

Praying always with all prayer and supplication

in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is not a mere religious rite, it is a spiritual armour. If you

are not praying, you are positioning yourself to be hit by the
arrow of temptation that the enemy will throw at you. This is
why Apostle Paul tells us to pray without ceasing.

85
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Pray without ceasing.

1Thessalonians 5:17

Just as you do not forsake dinner just because you had breakfast,
you cannot afford to pray in the morning and not pray at night.
We are to be on guard and watch in prayers all the time.

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into

temptation:
Matthew 26:41

Take note of the words of Jesus in the scriptures above. He speaks

about watching and praying. You have not completely
understood what prayer ought to be if you do not understand
watching.

What is Watching?

To watch, according to the dictionary is to look at or observe

attentively over a period of time. It could also be described as an
act or instance of carefully observing someone or something over
a period of time. This gives us a clue as to what watching in
prayer would mean.

86
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

For instance, it was a

practice in ancient
cities to set a watch
over the city. The idea
is to have a designated
person or officer who
constantly looks over
the city to ensure the
borders are secure,
and can alert the city
in the case of any
intruder or
approaching enemy forces.

Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon,

make the watch strong, set up the watchmen,
prepare the ambushes: for the LORD hath both
devised and done that which he spake against
the inhabitants of Babylon.
Jeremiah 51:12

And I said unto them, Let not the gates of

Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and
while they stand by, let them shut the doors,
and bar them: and appoint watches of the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his

87
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

watch, and every one to be over against his

house.
Nehemiah 7:3

In the same way, watching is an essential aspect of every

believer’s prayer life. It is to be awake and alert against the
attacks of the enemy. It is to observe carefully so as to know what
to pray and how to stand against the attacks of the devil.

Apostle Paul speaks severally about his habit of watching.

But in all things approving ourselves as the

ministers of God, in much patience, in
afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In
stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in
labours, in watchings, in fastings;
2 Corinthians 6:4-5

Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool)

I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes
above measure, in prisons more frequent, in
deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty
stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods,
once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck,
a night and a day I have been in the deep; In
journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils
of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen,
in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in

88
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in

perils among false brethren; In weariness and
painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
2 Corinthians 11:23-27

Again, in Matthew 26:41, we see Jesus rebuking His disciples for

failing to watch, a major reason why they could not stand when
the evil day came.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth

them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could
ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and
pray, that ye enter not into temptation:
Matthew 26:40-41

Look at this, He told them to watch and pray. Watching is to be

awake and alert. If you are not awake and alert in the realm of
the spirit, you are not watching. If you are not watching to
observe what the enemy may be planning, you would not be able
to pray effectively or stand when temptations come.

And said unto them, why sleep ye? rise and

pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
Luke 22:46

89
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Satan has had the power to overcome many believers simply

because they failed to put on this final armour, which is
watching unto prayer.

Watch and Pray!

Just as we have seen, the seventh armour that God has provided
for every believer is the eyes of prayer. You cannot use all
previously discussed
pieces of armour
effectively when
your eyes are closed.
Your spiritual eyes
must be activated in
watchings, for
prayer and by
prayer.

As someone that
must be strong in
battle, your eyes of
prayer must be alert, that is why the Bible tells us to WATCH
AND PRAY.

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye

therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
1Peter 4:7

90
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into

temptation:
Matthew 26:41

If your watch is not intact, your prayer will be deficient because

your watch shows you what to pray about. The essence of
watching is to connect you in the spirit to know what to pray
about. Your prayer life will therefore be weak if you do not
understand the instrumentality of watching.

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye

therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
1Peter 4:7
So, when you watch, according to the scripture above, you find
something to pray about. Do not rush into prayers, watch first so
you know how to position yourself in prayer to stop the attack of
the enemy.

The Importance of Prayer as an Armour

The devil knows your weaknesses and desires to capitalize on

them. Therefore, if you do not pray always, you will always fall
into temptation.

Your weakness remains a long as your body remains on earth

and that is the object of Satan’s temptation against you.

91
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

Temptation is the exploration and exploitation of the weakness

of a person. It is interesting to know that the shield of faith,
helmet of faith, sword
of the spirit etc. cannot
deal with your
weakness. It is only
prayer that can deal
with this.

Never forget this.

Watching is what
keeps you praying
always, and it is
prayer that keeps the flesh under, so you become less susceptible
to the temptation of the enemy.

Watching Ceaselessly

To watch ceaselessly is to pray ceaselessly. The book of Proverbs

says;

‘The man that heareth speaketh constantly.

Proverbs 21:28
You cannot hear without ceasing if you are not watching without
ceasing.

I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon

the tower, and will watch to see what he will

92
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

say unto me, and what I shall answer when I

am reproved.
Habakkuk 2:1

Watching is the state of alertness of the human spirit to pick

signals of the operations of heaven and to find places of
partnership. When you are watching in the spirit, you know
what God is doing, hence, knowing what to partner with God
about.

Therefore, be alert always, gathering information on what to

pray about.

Watching with thanksgiving

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with

thanksgiving;
Colossians 4:2
One of the major ways the devil tries to discourage believers
from watching is by showing them areas of their lives that seem
not to be working, making them complain about such areas
instead of remaining in thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving helps you to watch without distraction and stay

focused in prayer. It redirects your mind from every distraction
of negative thoughts. For instance, when the devil says, ‘oh, look
at you, you have no promotion on your job for over three years’,
your heart of thanksgiving will respond by saying, ‘Father, I

93
THE WHOLE ARMOUR OF GOD

thank you for my promotion which is coming speedily.’ Glory to

God!

That way you can

use thanksgiving
to keep yourself in
perspective,
watching so you
can see in the spirit
and partner with
God to bring His
will to pass in your
life.

(You can read

more about the power of thanksgiving in my book, The Mystery
of Thanksgiving)

But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and

Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites,
and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of
Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches
began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,
And conspired all of them together to come and
to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder
it. Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our
God, and set a watch against them day and
night, because of them.

Nehemiah 4:7-9

I want you to end the reading of this book praying in the Holy
Ghost. Ask the Lord to baptize you afresh with the spirit of prayer
and give you grace to watch. Begin now.
