Goal of the video:
● To discuss the importance of sohbat ( ‫ )صحبت‬of the Shaikh
● The different ways of gaining sohbat and how it is transferred
● To discuss the process from sohbat to the awakening of the rooh
● Training of the Qalb and awakening of the Rooh
● Eventual realms of the souls

The events at Azal:

When Allah gathered the souls at the beginning of time He asked them: Alastu birabbikum= Am
I not your Lord? The spirits answered Qalu Bala=They said:Yes you are. They also said, “Thee
do we worship, and Thine aid we seek.” He asked if He was not the Lord of the arwah; some
spirits heard the voice of their Lord and affirmed in the positive whereas some were steeped in
darkness, the souls of the non-believers, and did not receive the voice. When that voice was
heard; it started from Azal and will continue till the end of time which is Abad so it will always be
there.

When Hazrat Adam AS was created, the angels were there. When Allah blew Rooh into Adam
AS, it was restless. Then Allah transferred noor of Prophet Muhammad SAW into it, then it
attained peace and calm and Hazrat Adam AS opened his eyes. Humanity started henceforth.
So in other words life is noor e Muhammadi and death is when that departs from your material
body. This is life and death. Now where do the angels take this noor- to heights of the skies.

Allah guides whom He Wills:

Now if we look within our people, there were people who Hazrat Muhammad SAW said were
from the hypocrites. Which souls were those that were the hypocrites? Buzurgaan say a kaafir is
better than the munafiq. Why? This is because the kaafir denies everything. But the hypocrite is
worse because he accepted and then denied. Now Allah can give guidance to whosoever He
Wills. Look at the nephew of Halaku Khan who became the protector of Kaaba. He was from
amongst the kuffar.

Sohbat ‫صحبت‬: Influence, Training, Companionship

Where there is a saffron tree, there will be fragrance around it- in some places more than
others and this is the effect of 'sohbat' of the Shaikh.
2
Buzurgaan e Deen advise that the sohbat of the Auliya can be a source of salvation at the end.
If you take 'tumba' also called Indrayin which is very bitter and you bury it in the soil of the
saffron tree; it will start to radiate fragrance despite the fact that in reality it remains what it is. So
if this is the situation of the inanimate object, what about the influence of a living person upon
the heart of another being. If a buzurg casts a glance at the saliks heart, it enters into sohbat.

The blessings of sohbat:

A Jew once asked his son to fetch some goods from the market. On the way the boy saw the
Prophet Muhammad SAW and his companions sitting on the side. He cast a glance at the
Prophet Muhammad SAW who smiled at him and this sparked love inside the child's heart for
the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Some time passed and the father came looking for his son. He
saw the child sitting and listening to the Prophet SAW and he took the boy home. The boy would
repeatedly come back and join the gathering of the Nabi SAW. The father explained to the child
that we are Jews and you are sitting in the company of Muslims.

The child replied that I seem to have this deep affinity towards the Prophet SAW and I crave
for his presence. The father got very upset with his son and locked him in a room. Slowly the
child fell ill and the only word he could utter was Muhammad. The father came crying to the
Prophet SAW narrating what had happened to his son. The Prophet SAW asked the Jew to take
him to the child. When the child cast a glance at the Prophet SAW, his soul departed; some
narrations relate that he recited the Kalima while others state that he did not before the boy
breathed his last.

The burial of that child was performed according to Muslim rites. The Prophet SAW and the
sahaba performed his burial and the sahaba/companions noticed and inquired why the Prophet
SAW was walking so cautiously to which the Prophet SAW replied that there are so many
angels flooding the grave of this blessed child that there is no place to even set foot. This
incident shows the blessings of sohbat.

Ways of gaining Sohbat:

You can not be successful till you gain the sohbat of your Shaikh. Whether I meet my Shaikh in
person, or watch a video of his or an audio it seems to me that I am sitting in the presence of my
beloved Shaikh. People are sitting in different parts of the world and this sohbat will influence
your Qalb and this causes a love to sprout from your heart.

3
You may not have known Mian Huzoor in person but you saw a video on YouTube, you saw it
and liked what he was saying; then you kept watching it. You may wonder if you never get to
meet him in your entire lifetime then how do you gain his sohbat? That would be a very valid
question.

The Nabi SAW said those people are most dear to me who will have belief in me when they
have not even seen me. To his companions he said you are in my company but those people
will be my brothers who will believe in what I say without having even seen me. You haven't
seen the Prophet SAW but in your Shaikh's company you heard incidents of the Prophet SAW.
Books can not give you the knowledge that sohbat can give you. The point is that it is not
essential that you have to meet the Shaikh in person to gain his sohbat.

Sohbat at a distance:

People overseas have seen Mian Huzoor's videos and they start developing a very deep
affection for Mian. The love keeps growing to the point where they see him in their dreams also.
Then your tarbiyat/ training/guidance will take place. You may wonder how will this happen as
the Shaikh does not know that somewhere in the USA someone is keenly watching him?

There are three types of mureed/disciples:

🔵
🔵Rasmi (become students as a formality)

🔵Matlabi (need based)

Haqii/ haqeeqi (real follower)

Some are very close physically yet spiritually very far off yet some are at a distance and in very
close proximity to the Shaikh spiritually. When you take the sohbat of your Shaikh and love
grows in your heart a bell rings in the heart of your Shaikh. How does the connect work? To
understand this spiritual connection we can look at how modern technology works between the
satellite and a chip in your mobile. This enables you to converse or send messages between
two or more people.

In this sohbat when the splinter of love sets ablaze, these rays go into the mind of the Shaikh
no matter how far you may be physically from the Shaikh. When these rays go to his mind, his
positive rays accept these rays from the salik. This is how the connect forms and this is why a
lot of times the mureed listen to the audio or the video of the Shaikh and he finds the Shaikh
answering his questions that he never even asked his Shaikh ever. The questions in the
mureed's heart are answered by the Shaikh and this happens through the Ruhani Network. I
want this network of yours to be strong. It is through this network that you receive your tarbiyat.
When the love of your Shaikh grows in your heart, then it means that your Shaikh's
tawajuh/concentration is on you. You have been successful. It's better to love your Shaikh
than read a million books endlessly.

4
َ ‫ یہ فیصلے ایسے ہی ہوتے‬،‫' محبت کرنے سے نہیں ہوتی‬
‫ہیں‬

Love can not be decided, it just happens..

Importance of Sohbat:

You can become a scholar by reading books but does that help you in finding God? Then what
good is this knowledge? You can read the life of the Sufis and read their life and when did they
find God? It is only when these saints like Rumi meet their Shaikh. Therefore, sohbat is crucial
to spiritual progress.

Now let's take the example of Quran or namaz. To read it, you sat with a teacher and were
instructed carefully. You are dependent on that training. In childhood, it was your mother. That's
why it is said that whosoever recognizes his Nafs, can recognise this Rabb. Who made you
recognize your Rabb? Your Shaikh whose sohbut you adapted. The Prophet SAW showed your
guidance through his life but it is through the sohbut of the Shaikh that plants the seeds of ishq.
You have to take the first step. Have you taken the first step towards Rahman or the satan? One
can always dwindle on this path also. The company of your elders is the route for you to follow.

Woh Jo mujh mei bolta hai Woh mein Nahi houn

He who speaks from within me is not me

Sohbat is the prerequisite to love which in turn is a requirement for ishq which is necessary to
find your Rabb. So your Shaikh is your source whether it is in person, or through the video or
audio and that is what makes you 'kamil' accomplished spiritually.

Influence of sohbat on Qalb:

Sohbat affects the Qalb. When Qalb is affected and then tears roll down your eyes. This means
your Shaikh's tawajjuh is cast upon your heart. These are not just tears but it is an
overwhelming emotion of your Qalb that rolls down your eyes. This is when the Qalb is trained
after it receives tawajjuh.

Tarbiyat is given to that which is alive, not the dead. When tarbiyat starts, then the veils in your
heart are ripped and that's when the zikr is accepted. Buzurg say this Qalb can be alive and
dead.

When the Qalb is trained then you will develop a sensation to stay away from people by
yourself. When you see that you are not overjoyed by the lights and glamour of this world, you
must know that your tarbiyat is progressing. That's why the buzurgan e deen sidelined ( ‫کنارہ کشی‬
kinara Kashi) themselves from people and then they were ordered to go back into the crowds
and benefit and help people. This happens when the tarbiyat of the Qalb is completed. When
they isolated themselves from people, they were not necessarily immersed in zikr but they were
receiving training for their Qalb otherwise the heart would not be able to bear the Tajjali of their
Lord.

The word Qalb means upside down because it has not been trained. The Qalb is turned correct
5
through training. The zikr is only beneficial when it starts from the Qalb, it is then that your
soul/Rooh is awakened. The qalb has 7 veils and every veil has a veil behind it and these veils
need to be removed for the heart to become awakened. Different people get to remove different
veils. It varies. This journey from sohbat to the removal of the veils is understood by the phrase

'mar jao marnay sai pehlay'.

Die before your death

This is a very difficult journey and this new lease of life is when the Rooh becomes awakened.
'Mar jao' does not mean to kill or die, it means you have put yourself in the hands of the Shaikh;
it is a complete surrender. When the Rooh gets awakened once, then it does not die. Ser and
Khafi are very far away destinations.

At Rooh getting awakened (the third station), the salik reaches Maqam e Baqaa. When it's time
to depart, you are ready to leave. The soul returns with ease because it has seen this path
before. If your soul has not awakened, then you missed the real blessing in your life.

At the time of departure:

At the time of death the arwah (white in colour) become immersed in the bigger Noor. So we
can understand that noor meets with Noor. This noor inside of you is noor e Muhammadi. When
this noor meets Noor, it becomes Murad. Lateefa e Nafs is yellow. It is yellow from the
combination of two colours: red and green. Red is for Qalb. White is for Rooh. If your Rooh
departs from your body, you are pronounced dead.

Different Stations for different souls:

Some souls will go to a higher, exalted station while some will go to a lower arena. How does
this happen? The noor/souls that were awakened went into the higher station whereas those
that were not awakened were transferred to the lower realm. Now the station of Rooh is kept
close to the Qalb, why? When a person is born he is born as Muslim ( on firat e Islami) and then
it is the sohbut or influence of the parents that teach him which religion he should follow and
how he should conduct himself.

In some places, the mother gives the sohbat e Rahman and in other places it may be sohbut e
shaitan. Qalb is kept close to Rooh, when a person has choice of religion and he chooses Islam
the noor becomes brighter and when another faith is chosen then that light or noor becomes
dimmer. However, even if there is the slightest of lights, it still has the potential to become
brighter. Every soul has the opportunity to make its light brighter. This light varies but at this time
your Qalb is described by Allah as:

6
Obviously this is said about that which is alive, there is no need to say it for an entity which is
dead. So we gather from this also that the Qalb is alive and needs to be trained and awakened.

Qalb has kaifiyat/experiences/sensations : these kaifiyaat vary. When a person is

ignorant/ghafil, then there is darkness in that Qalb and that light begins to dim. To make this
message understood, thousands of prophets graced the earth. All the Anbiya are Tajjali of
Rabb. They will all return to the Real; only those people who gained sohbut from these prophets
of their times and their followers will be at peace and will attain jannat; a place of endless
goodness.
