Routines & procedures

Every morning upon entering the class, students will take their name out of the
papers on the table next to the door, this will be used to take attendance effectively,
they will also grab their Do Now journals. Students will start on their Do Now which will
be posted on the board before class starts. In their journals, students will write their
name, class, and date in the top right-hand corner. The Do Now’s will be a question
asking for a few sentences about the last lesson, or a question that will require them to
write a paragraph about personal experiences. Students will be given 10 minutes to
complete the Do Now, then they will share their writings with the class, the student will
be selected through a random number generator to give everyone an equal chance.
The table next to the door will also have compartments to turn in assignments.
After students are finished with the Do Now, students will be called by table and will
place their journals in the compartment next to the door, then they will grab all the
papers that will be used for the day’s lesson, along with their notetaking journal. The
papers that will be used for the days’ lesson are not grabbed when the Do Now journal
is grabbed to avoid an untidy and crowded workspace.
After all assignments are completed, a selected member of the table will turn in
everyone’s assignments to avoid having a lot of people in one place. The Exit Ticket will
be given 15 minutes before class ends and students will have 10 minutes to complete it.
For the last 5 minutes of class, we will make sure the classroom is nice and tidy and put
our chairs on top of the table to give the custodian a little help.
