1. In a rainstorm with a strong wind, what determines the best position in which to hold an
umbrella?

Holding the umbrella against the direction of the wind is the best position to hold it in a
rainstorm with strong winds as this would provide maximum protection against the rain.

2. In a racing match, which is more important, an odometer? Velocimeter? Speedometer?

Explain your answer.

The Speedometer is the most important instrument among the three to use in a race
since it indicates the speed of a vehicle and the race determines the winner by the fastest
speed. An odometer records the distance traveled which isn’t as important. Although a
velocimeter can also measure speed, it is more relevant in applications of measuring
velocity and length on moving surfaces. Races also don’t give significance on the directions
very much, thus the velocimeter isn’t as important.
