Title

Background of the research

A brief of the project title in about 8-10 sentences.

Problem Definition
The statement of problem in at most 4-5 sentences

Review of Literature
Review of different sources of literature in at most 4-5 pages, (refer the following paragraph for
example). Avoid verbatim copy of literature.
Researchers found that impulse buyers usually do not set out with the specific purpose of visiting a
certain store and purchasing a certain item; the behavior occurs after experiencing an urge to buy
(Beatty & Ferrell, 1998), and such behaviors are influenced by internal states and
environmental/external factors. Research findings suggest that impulse buying accounts for substantial
sales across a broad range of product categories (Bellenger, Robertson & Hirschman, 1978; Cobb &
Hoyer, 1986; Han, Morgan, Kotsiopulos, & Kang-Park, 1991; Kollat & Willet, 1967; Rook & Fisher,
1995; Weinberg & Gottwald, 1982).

Research Gap:
The gap in the existing literature, which was taken up as the problem area for the research has to be
explained in 3-4 sentences. The significance of the research will depend on its contribution to the
existing research/ knowledge in the particular field, therefore titles on which little research has been
done earlier will be encouraged.

Objective:
The objective of the research should be stated accurately in a sentence starting with ‘to’. Refer the
example mentioned below:
 To suggest an ideal design for a trial room of a premium denim brand
The objective will be a precise statement of the aim of the study in simple language. Objectives must
not be stated in paragraphs.
Methodology:
Methodology of a research project includes the description of the various steps to be adopted to
achieve the research objective. The methodology must cover the following points clearly:
 Research Design: Exploratory/ Descriptive/ Causal
 Data Sources: Primary/Secondary
 Questionnaire Design
 Sampling Design: Sample size, frame, element, technique

For example:
The study is exploratory in nature focusing on discovery of new design alternatives for trial rooms. It
will include the study of both primary and secondary sources of data.
Secondary data will help in formulating a theoretical basis of the study which includes the information
about different physical attributes of a store which influence store choice and the impact of trial room
design on the overall shopping experience. Secondary data will be collected through various magazines
related to store design and visual merchandising the major ones including VMSD, research
papers(name a few major sources), journals and internet( name the major websites relevant to the
topics)
Primary data will be collected through both observation and survey. Observation of the trial rooms of
some brands in the mentioned category will help in understanding the prevailing trends in the market
segment.
The survey will be conducted on 100 consumers in order to understand their design preferences.
Sampling technique will be non-probabilistic convenience sampling which will include mall intercepts.
The sampling frame will include West End Mall, X Garden and District Shopping Centre, GE Road.
The sample elements will include both male and female of age group 18-45 years shopping at the
mentioned malls.
The questionnaire would be constructed in order to understand the ………….

Scope:
Scope of research in the stated area in not more than 4-5 sentences.
